Both ends of the tunnel were blocked with more ice. Captain Nemo told us there were two ways of dying in that situation. We had enough air for two days, but we might be crushed before that. Captain Nemo and his crew used a long pole and found we were lying on ten meters of ice.

The men began to cut the ice under Nautilus. It would take five nights and four days to remove enough ice to free the Nautilus. However, there was only enough air for two days.
