We arrived in South Africa today. Things aren't looking too good for England. We only drew the first game，1-1. The question now is: will we be able to enter next round？

Well，our next two games are against Algeria（阿爾及利亞）and Slovenia（斯洛文尼亞），so our chances must be good.

June 18th England vs. Algeria

We almost missed the beginning of the game because we weren't able to find a taxi to get us to the stadium（體育場）.The game was awful！Our great hope，Rooney，didn't do much. Sometimes I think he'll never be able to score for England again！Well，perhaps he'll be better in the next game. Hope so.

June 23th England vs. Slovenia

We didn't see this live as we couldn't get tickets. So we watched it on a big screen in the city centre. It was great there，the atmosphere（氛圍）was fantastic. There were people from all over the world and we could hear lots of different languages. We met some people from Slovenia. It's Germany next.

June 26th

We managed to get tickets for the round of 16 game tomorrow. England vs. Germany.

Just don't ask how much the tickets cost. We spent the rest of the day doing a bit of sightseeing. It was great but I wasn't able to stop thinking about the big game.I'm so excited.

We often think how fast we learn something depends on how smart we are. If your brain is taking in material quickly, you’re clever; if not, well, that doesn’t say great things about your IQ. But science shows context (上下文) and technique (技術) actually play a big role in how fast we learn, and even small changes – like the way you use to read – can make a big difference.

Audio (音頻的) books have plenty of advantages: you can enjoy them anywhere, even in the car, and not printing books saves trees. Poor readers also often find them more interesting. But according to the latest research, if your goal isn’t to pass the time in traffic, but instead to learn something difficult, you should choose a physical book.

In a recent opinion piece in the New York Times, psychology (心理學) professor Daniel T.Willingham mentioned a 2010 study where 48 students either read or listened to an article about child psychology. Although the students spent the same amount of time with their material and did about the same number of distracting (分散注意力) activities while they absorbed the information, they scored very differently on a 10-item quiz later. Generally, the readers scored 81 percent but while the listeners scored 59 percent. Why does listening vs reading material have such a great effect on learning?

Willingham explains that first, most of us read more slowly than we listen (especially when pausing and rereading), and when you’re trying to absorb new information, slower seems to be better. “About 10 to 15 percent of eye movements during reading are actually regressive – meaning the eyes are going back and re-checking,” he explains to TIME. “This happens very quickly…”

Second, books offer visual cues (可視線索) that help our brains organize and understand new information. Things like chapter breaks, subheadings, and lists help us in making sense of the material and understanding how it fits together. You lose all that when you go the audio way.

The bottom line is simple: Don’t feel shame about passing your time in traffic with an audio book. However, be aware of audio’s limitations when it comes to studying, and seriously consider choosing good old-fashioned reading instead.

When we are injured or suddenly feeling unwell, what we need to do is to treat it in the right way. How can we do that? First aid (急救) is here to help.

First aid is the first steps you can take to care for someone who’s injured. It includes keeping safe, helping someone feel better and staying calm. It also includes getting help, either by telling an adult or calling 120.

Sept 14 is World First Aid Day. It’s time for us to learn about this useful life skill.

Nosebleed	Ask the person to lean (傾斜) forward and pinch (捏) his/her nose for five to six minutes. Do not move the head backward, as the blood can run into their mouth or even lungs.
Choking	Stand behind the choking (因噎住而窒息 ) person, put your arms around their waist and lean him or her forward. Make fists with your hands and thrust (猛烈施壓) your fists into their stomach. Do this up to five times. You can also do back blows – firmly slap (拍打) their back with your hand. If the object still doesn’t come out, call 120.
Broken bone	If the bone is broken, keep it still. You can support it with your hands or clothes to stop movement. Then, find an adult or call 120 for further help.
Burn	Quickly cool the burned area with cold running water. You should do this for at least 10 minutes. Then, call an adult for help or go to the hospital. Do not use ice. It can make the injury even worse.
