You have probably dreamed about how you would change the world, only to find that it seems impossible. However, you may have the power to make 1 world better with baby steps. That's the idea behind the BA Challenge.

The BA Challenge is a public service activity started 2 Alibaba and Sina Weibo. It asks people 3 do something good and then record the changes before and after. Since its first appearance on Sina Weibo on Sept. 2, millions of people, including some famous stars, have taken 4 in it. For example, Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming sent mooncakes to old people 5 live alone. The young actor Xu Weizhou drew some trees in the desert, trying to show that working to 6 the environment can give us hope.

Though these little things may be easily ignored (忽視)in our daily 7, they strike a chord with many people. “The challenge makes me 8 in the miracle(奇跡)good actions again.” wrote a commenter(評(píng)論家)on Sina Weibo. “Though they are unimportant to one single person, they actually have a great impact on making the world 9 if we all do that.”

As the old Chinese saying goes, “Do not fail to do good even if it's small, do not engage in evil 10 if it's small.” Why don't we all set smaller goals? Then we may change the world slowly but surely, as a river changes a mountain.

空后是名詞world,故這里應(yīng)用定冠詞the,修飾world,表示特指。

根據(jù)句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知,這句話中使用了句型ask sb. to do sth.“要求某人做某事”,這里應(yīng)填的是動(dòng)詞不定式的符號(hào)to。

根據(jù)句子結(jié)構(gòu)可知,…live alone是一個(gè)定語從句,修飾前面的名詞old people,指人,且從句中缺少主語,應(yīng)用who引導(dǎo)。

根據(jù)句中drew some trees in the desert“沙漠中有了綠樹”,這是提醒我們保護(hù)環(huán)境的重要性,考查單詞protect,是一個(gè)動(dòng)詞?

上文 “they strike a chord with many people”提到這些公益活動(dòng)引起了人們的共鳴,因此這里表示“又相信了奇跡般的善行”,考查believe in這個(gè)短語。

根據(jù)文章開頭 “However, you may have the power to make ___1___ world better with baby steps.”

It is reported rhino horns are big business. Traditional Chinese medicine uses them to treat illnesses. A kilogram can be sold as much as horn $60,000.As a result, almost all rhino populations are in danger. In order to solve the serious problems, a good way to relieve pressure on the animals might be to fill the market with fakes(仿造品),so rhinos may have a chance to stay alive.

That would need the fakes to be good. But Fritz Vollrath, a zoologist at Oxford University and his partners from Fudan University have come up with a cheap and easy-to-make fake horn that is very similar to the real thing.

The main material of Dr. Vollrath's fake horn is horsehair. Although horses and rhinos look different, they are closely related. Horses do not have horns, of course, but neither do rhinos. The "horns" of rhinos are not made of bones but hairs. The hairs are tied tightly together by a mixture of dead cells. Examinations under a microscope showed that hairs from horses' tails are similar to those in the horns of rhinos.

So how can a fake rhino horn be made? First, find out the right materials. Second, a proper glue should be used. Dr. Vollrath and his partners get a special kind of glue. It is naturally produced by spiders and silkworms. Third, the glued horn is put in an oven to dry. At last, after some polishing, the fake horn looks just like a real one.

DNA would certainly tell the fakes but people's eyes are not able to tell the differences. So by making fake horns, people may help save more rhinos.

1Rhino populations are in danger because____________.

A.they become seriously illB.rhinos have a lot of pressure

4There are ____________steps to make a fake rhino horn according to the passage.

5The writer's opinion about the fake rhino horns is that

A.people have to make fake rhino horns to save rhinos.

B.it's expensive and difficult to make the fake rhino horns.

C.people make the fake rhino horns to make lots of money.

D.the fake rhino horns are completely the same as the real ones.

British people love going to pubs. They often say "If you haven't been to a pub,you haven't been to Britain.”

The word "pub" is short for "Public House". There are over 60,000 pubs in the UK53,000 in England and Wales, 5,200 in Scotland and 1,600 in Northern Ireland. One of the oldest pubs, Fighting Cocks in St. Albans Herts, is located(位于)in a building that dates back to the eleventh century.

Pubs are an important part of British life. People talk, eat, drink, meet their friends and relax there.

Pubs often have two bars, one usually quieter than the other. Many have a garden where people can sit in the summer. Children can go in pub gardens with their parents.

In pubs, groups of friends normally buy “rounds" of drinks, where the person whose turn it is will buy drinks for all the members of the group. It is sometimes difficult to get served when pubs are busy: people do not queue, but the bar staff will usually try and serve those who have been waiting the longest at the bar first. If you spill a stranger's drink by accident, it is good manners to offer to buy another drink.

Most pubs belong to a brewerya company which makes beer) but sell many different kinds of beer, some on tap (from a big container under the bar) and some in bottles. The most popular kind of British beer is bitter, which is dark and served at room temperature (not hot, not cold). British beer is brewed from malt and hops.

Pubs have traditional names which date back over 600 years. Some typical names are The Chequers, The White Swan, The Crown, The King's Arms, The Red Lion and The White Horse. There is usually a sign outside the pub showing the pub’s name with a picture.

British pubs are required to have a license, which is difficult to get. And they are allowed to open for 24 hours every day. Most pubs are open from 11 to 11.

So next time when you go to UK, please go to one of the pubs. After all, seeing is believing!

1What is the word "pub" short for?

2What do people do in pubs in the UK?

3Is it good manners to offer to buy another drink if you spill a stranger's drink by accident?

4How long are British pubs allowed to open every day?

5What does the passage mainly tell us?
