【題目】 Every year many people died or were injured in car accidents where drivers were using their mobile phones. However, people continue to use them while driving even though it’s dangerous.

A recent study found that when drivers were talking on their mobile phones, their stopping times were 30 percent slower than when they had drunk too much—and nearly 50 percent slower than when they were driving normally(正常地). It also found that drivers talking on mobile phones were less able to control their cars than drunk drivers.

And talking isn’t even the most serious problem, texting is. An average text message takes 90 seconds to write and send. That means for one and a half minutes a driver is looking at their phone’s screen and not at the road. The arrival of new smart phones such as the iPhone will only make matters worse as they will allow users to do more things than ever before.

Using a mobile phone while driving puts others’ lives at risk. No matter how well we drive, if another driver is not being professional or careful,we are put in danger by their actions. Such drivers are selfish, careless and should have their driving licenses (駕照)cancelled.

There is no need to use them while driving. Just wait until you stop or you will probably get into trouble of your own.

1The underlined word “them” in paragraph 1 refers to________.

A.phone usersB.mobile phones

C.driversD.ears

2If a driver needs 10 seconds to stop when driving normally, they will need seconds to stop when talking on a mobile phone.

A.12B.13C.14D.15

3What is the most serious problem when driving?

A.Talking on the mobile phone.B.Texting.C.Drunk driving.D.Playing.

4Why will new types of mobile phones make the driving problem worse?

A.It will take longer to send text messages.

B.People will want to talk on their phones more often.

C.There will be more things for people to do with their phones.

D.People think the new phones are easier and safer to use.

5Which of the following is TRUE?

A.The drivers should use the mobile phone while driving.

B.Talking on mobile phones while driving is really worse than drunk driving.

C.The drivers should be put into prison(監(jiān)獄) when they send text messages while driving.

D.It takes three minutes to write and send a text message when driving.

【題目】 Most people cannot choose their jobs. They only have their jobs forced upon (被迫) them. This may be because they haven’t enough training for any other job, or because of economic situation, or because they live in a place where there is a limited choice of jobs, or because their fathers and grandfathers have always followed a certain occupation. The Indian born of farmer parents in a village has, for example, few opportunities of becoming anything but a farmer.

But if one is lucky enough to be able to choose the job one is going to do, how should one make one’s choice? One’s choice clearly depends on what one wants to get out of one’s job.

Some people believe that nobody can do a job well if they do not enjoy it. But this is probably true only of certain types of work. And there are those who have an ability for turning their job into something that is an enjoyable way of earning their living (掙錢生計), but who do not really do their work well. Some doctors, for example, who become rich and famous men are in fact not owning humanity (人性) which is necessary in their job, and may even not be especially skilled at their job. So are some lawyers. Perhaps many of the best doctors, lawyers, and teachers spend their lives working so hard for others that do not have time to become rich and famous. One must decide, when choosing a job, whether one wants to do a job for its own sake (為工作本身) or for the rewards (報酬) it offers.

1“They only have their jobs forced upon them” may means ________.

A.they make themselves do the jobs

B.they have to do the jobs available

C.they must follow what their fathers used to do

D.their jobs are chosen by others

2The underlined word “opportunities” in the first paragraph probably means “________.”

A.hobbiesB.formsC.effortsD.chances

3According to the passage, a person’s choice of job should be decided by ________.

A.his economic situationB.his family background

C.his purpose in taking a jobD.his ability to do a job

4The writer seems to have a good impression on those doctors who are ________.

A.rich.B.famous.C.skillful.D.hardworking.

5How many occupations are mentioned in the last paragraph?

A.OneB.TwoC.ThreeD.Four

6We may infer (推斷) from the passage that ________.

A.lawyers are those people who work very hard for others

B.humanity is necessary in the making of a good doctor

C.a successful person is one who can make his living in an enjoyable way

D.teachers must be rich and famous if they work hard.
