Have you ever jumped on a trampoline? Today many people use it for exercise.

Back in the 1980s, researchers found that jumping on a trampoline was a good way to help astronauts regain their strength. Actually, trampolining has many advantages. It helps bones and muscles grow and improves your balance by stimulating the inner ear. It is especially useful for increasing flow of the lymphatic system. which helps your body get rid of harmful toxins. Trampolining has benefits similar to those of running, but without too much stress on knees and ankles.

If you would like to start trampolining, you may first need to ask a doctor to make sure it's a safe activity for you. It's easy to find an inexpensive trampaline, but it should be well made and strong enough to support your weight. To avoid accidents, some trampolines have 8 safety net around them. Remember: whenever you are on a trampoline, be careful not to jump near the edge of it.

Here are a few exercises for beginners,

High Knee Lift. Raise one knee at a time. Lift your knee higher than you usually do when you are running.

Star Jump. Jump into the air and spread your arms and legs into a star shape. As you gain more confidence, practice more difficult levels:

Tuck Jump. At the top of your jump, bring the knees to the chest. with the arms holding the legs.

Pike Jump. Jump high, bring the legs up, and point the toes forward. Touch your toes with hands.

There are many more exercises you can try. Happy trampolining!

【題目】Athletics vs. Gardening

The students of Southside School were asked to give their opinions about whether the school should run an athletic program or start a vegetable garden.

An athletic program is hatch better than gardening. How are we ever going to win anything at the Inter-School Athletics without proper training? At the moment, we only do athletics for one tam and the teachers train us. We need experts(專家)to teach us things like throwing and high jump.

I know lots of kids say they're tot interested in competitions, but that's because they've never won anything. If they got better training and started winning things, they'd soon change their minds.

People always say kids don't get enough exercise. Just because you do gardening outdoors doesn't make it exercise, so I don't sec how it matters.

Athletics is much better for fitness and lots of kids can have a go at the same tine. I don't think there would be enough jobs for everyone in a garden.

In fact, I think a garden is a really bad idea. I don't know why we're even considering it.

Liz, Grade 8

I think a vegetable garden is a great idea. We already do hours of sport, including athletics. And not everyone likes sport.

Gardening is a great way to get exercise without worrying about whether you're any good at it, or whether you're going to win. And you really do gel exercise when you garden. There's digging, weeding and watering Even picking things can be hard work – pumpkins aren't light you know!

There are lots of kids around here who don't have gardens so they can’t grow things even they want to. If you really want to do more sport, you can join a club.

And think about it: What helps you to be good at sport? You need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. If we learn to cook all the things we grow, the garden will keep us all fit and healthy and then we’ll be better at sport.

Sam, Grade 8

1Which of these points do Liz and Sam both make?

A. Kids should take exercise.B. Kids should eat vegetables.

C. Kids should try to win more.D. Kids should be outside more.

2What is one reason Liz gives for saying "a garden is a really bad idea"?

A. Some students don't like getting dirty.

B. Some students don't enjoy being outside.

C. Some students already know how to garden.

D. Some students may have no chance to garden.

3Why does Sam say, "And think about it.: what helps you to be good at sport?"

A. To change the subject.B. To introduce his next reason.

C. To support Liz's idea.D. To find an answer to the question.

【題目】

While Westerners were getting used to paying with credit cards(信用卡)or bank cards at the very beginning of the 21st century, most Chinese people still liked to pay in cash (paper money) out of habit. However, today, Chinese people may be leading the world in mobile payment, mainly WeChat Pay and Alipay.

Foreigners feel amazed when Chinese people buy everything with their phones. At least, this was the case for Lim Swee Say, Manpower Minister of Singapore.

When Lim was waiting in line to buy some snacks at a street stall(貨攤)in Shanghai, he saw other customers show their phones and take the food without giving over any cash. Soon after, he realized that the customers were using mobile payment. "Singapore is actually backward(落后)" , said Lim

The popularity of mobile payment in China has pushed many foreign countries and agencies to accept them. And several reasons might make this mobile payment spread in the whole world.

● Quite a few Western mobile payment services require businessmen to install(安裝)expensive

machines before customers can use them. While using Chinese mobile payment, all it takes is a QR code(二維碼)and a smart phone.

● Nowadays, almost everyone has a smart phone, even teenagers. And the mobile payment has helped people save the trouble of taking wallets with them. It's not only safer, more convenient, but also environmentally friendly.

● Most shops in China, from a tiny shop in villages to a huge shopping center in big cities, all offer the service of mobile payment. And by the end of last year, Hangzhou Public Transportation System installed the mobile payment machine on 8,000 downtown buses.

● With Chinese travelers throughout the world, it's now common to see the familiar green or blue QR codes in tourist sights around the world.

1What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A. The Chinese people still like to pay in cash today.

B. Most Western people feel like the mobile payment.

C. Chinese people used the credit card at the beginning of the 21 at century.

D. Both WeChat Pay and Alipay are the most popular payments in China.

2How do the foreigners feel when they see so many Chinese pay with phones?

A. Interested.B. amazed.C. Delighted.D. Worried.

3What does Lim mean by saying "Singapore is actually backward."?

A. In Singapore fewer people like to pay in cash.

B. People in Singapore don't know how to pay with phones.

C. It is not so popular for people in Singapore to pay with phones.

D. There are fewer people in Singapore who like the web payment.

4What does the underlined word "popularity" mean?

A. 普及B. 便捷C. 入口D. 喜好

5Why does the writer write this passage?

A. To remind people to pay with credit cards.

B. To introduce WeChat Pay & Alipay.

C. To tell us the fact that the mobile payment may spread in the world.

D. To persuade(說服)more people to use mobile payment.

THE KIDBRIDGE TOLERANCE MUSEUM

Volunteer Opportunity(機(jī)會(huì)) for College Students

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Our volunteer college students work with small groups of young people to guide them through activities and discussions. Students from different majors(專業(yè)) can learn a lot from our program, especially teacher major. Working with small groups is an excellent way to develop as a new teacher. Many of our visitors have Spanish as a first language, so bilingual(雙語的) teachers are wanted.

TRAINING

No experience is necessary! Have fun working with the young. New volunteers receive training and work with experienced teachers.

TIME COMMITMENT

Field trips take place between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm during the week. Volunteers may work 9:30 am to 11:30 am or 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm, or 9:30 am to 1:30 pm if you like. Volunteers generally attend as often or as little as they prefer.

OTHER WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

Kidsbridge also provides opportunities for students with

specific interests to do research and learn more. Internship (實(shí)習(xí)生) opportunities are available. Volunteering in the Museum also counts as Community Service hours.

College students’ reflections after visiting the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum:

“It is an experience that can’t be compared to other college classes. I’ve found that sharing time with the kids was not only beneficial to them but a huge benefit to me.”

Now I know why I want to be a teacher --these children need the best teachers. I learned that you never know what a student is going through, and you may not have the answers. However, if you are the person who that child looks to as different, as a safe place from all of the madness in their lives, then you have opened the door. You can make a world of difference.”
