save money “存錢”。
seem + adj. “看起來(lái)……”。前面提到“a woman came in and asked Gloria for books on cancer.”
根據(jù)“The woman left the store less worried”可知Gloria的幫助使得顧客的擔(dān)心減輕了,她感到很自豪。
offer to do sth.
這是一個(gè)who引導(dǎo)的定語(yǔ)從句,先行詞是people,who充當(dāng)主語(yǔ),缺少謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞,賓語(yǔ)為programs,所以應(yīng)是watch programs,意為“看節(jié)目”。此處who指的是people,后動(dòng)詞應(yīng)用原形。
其他還要考慮名詞是否需要變成形容詞,例如:sun-sunny, use-useful/useless/used, danger-dangerous;在遇到動(dòng)詞時(shí),要有意識(shí)地去考慮時(shí)態(tài)和語(yǔ)態(tài)的變化以及非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞形式的變化(動(dòng)詞不定式- to do,現(xiàn)在分詞-doing,過(guò)去分詞-done,固定搭配-enjoy doing sth./used to do sth./have sth. done…);形容詞和副詞填空時(shí)要主動(dòng)去判定是否需要變成比較級(jí)或最高級(jí),還有它們之間的相互轉(zhuǎn)換以及形容詞變名詞的需求也需考慮,例如:interesting-more /the most interesting, happy-happily,happy -happiness;填入代詞時(shí),需注意辨別主格、賓格、名詞性和形容詞性物主代詞或反身代詞的用法;數(shù)詞方面要注意基數(shù)詞和序數(shù)詞的變化以及分?jǐn)?shù)和虛實(shí)數(shù)的用法,例如:three-third, 2/3-two thirds, one thousand/thousands of;冠詞只需要在a或an之間判別,如a girl/an old man;當(dāng)遇到介詞和連詞時(shí),就更簡(jiǎn)單,只要符合上下文邏輯或固定短語(yǔ)搭配,填入即可。

Why would someone decide to stop eating? We know that the body needs food in order to work well. However, many people fast at some time during their lives. Why is this?
Some people fast for political reasons. In the early 20th century, women in England and the United States weren’t allowed to vote. So many women went on fast. They hoped that fasting would bring attention to it. Mohandas Gandhi, the famous Indian leader, fasted 17 times during his life. For Gandhi, fasting was a powerful political tool. In 1943, he fasted to bring attention to his country’s need for independence. For 21 days, he went without food. Another famous faster was Cesar Chavez. In the 1960s, he fasted for three weeks. Why? His goal was to bring attention to the terrible working conditions of farm workers in the United States.
Fasting is also a practice in many religions(宗教). Every year during the month of Ramadan, which is a religious holiday, Muslims(穆斯林) fast from sunrise to sunset. Many Indians fast at special time, and there was also a fasting holiday in ancient China.
Of course, not everyone fasts for political or religious reasons. People sometimes fast just because it makes them feel better. The American writer Mark Twain thought fasting was the best medicine for common illnesses. Whenever he had a cold or a fever, he stopped eating completely. He said that this always made his cold or fever go away. Another American writer, Upton Sinclair, discovered fasting after years of eating too much and headaches. His first fast lasted for 12 days. During this time, his headaches and stomachaches went away. Sinclair said that fasting also made him more alert and energetic.
Choosing to go without food can be very dangerous. However, that doesn’t stop people from fasting for political, religious, or health reasons.

Trying to lose weight can be difficult, and while we all know exercise and diet are both basic needs, which one is more important?
If you had to choose, should you be hitting the gym, or eating salads? There are many ways you can burn a few hundred calories (卡路里): running for 20 minutes, an hour of swimming, or singing your favourite song 23 times. But the point is, it takes time to burn a lot of calories even with most tiring activity - not to mention the time spent on the way to the gym, and then back home to clean up.
Now, compare this to the number of calories in a chocolate bar - which is often over 200 calories. You could either walk for about an hour to burn that 200 calories, or you could simply not eat that chocolate bar. Which sounds easier to you? How about running for 30 minutes every day or cutting out those two cans of soda? Many physicians point out that there is a lot of high-sugar, high-fat, high-calorie foods we could cut from our diet, to see weight loss results more quickly. And studies also show that diet does actually play a bigger role in weight loss than exercise. A survey of 2000 children found that the level of physical activity was not the main reason for their weight. And a study of 3000 adults discovered that cutting down calories was connected to greater weight loss than exercise alone.
Of course, exercise has many health advantages besides weight loss, like slowing the aging process and improving mental health. But at the end of the day, if you expect to lose weight, you’re likely to get more bang for your buck if you focus on your diet first.

【3】The energy in a chocolate bar ________.
A.is as much as the energy we need for singing a song 23 times
B.may be burnt by walking for about half an hour
C.should not be added to a diet when you want to lose weight
【4】Which of following is TRUE according to the passage?
