【題目】(A)根據(jù)短文回答問題。

Rachel Beckwith is a little girl. For her 9th birthday, she didn’t ask for toys, dolls or a new pair of shoes. Instead, she made a selfless(無私的)wish: She wanted her friends and family to donate money to the charity for water, so that people in developing countries could have clean drinking water.

“On June 12th,2011,I’m turning 9,” she wrote on her fundraising(募捐)page. “I found that millions of people don’t live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn’t have clean or safe water, so I’m celebrating my birthday like never before. I’m asking everyone I know to donate instead of buying gifts for my birthday.”

Rachel’s goal amount was $300,but she only raised $220 from her friends and family. That didn’t bother her much, though—she thought she could raise more the following year. Unluckily, that’s not to be: Rachel was a passenger in one of the 14 cars involved(牽涉)in a highway accident. After spending several days in a hospital, she closed her eyes on Saturday. The news of her death became known, and so did the story of her fundraising wish. Now, Rachel’s fundraising page has received donations from more than four thousand people, over $84,000.All of that money will go towards building wells in developing countries.

【題目】Drawing might help you think

When you're sitting in class, have you ever drawn pictures in the margins of your notebooks?

If so, your teacher might have told you 1(stop). Many people think of doodling(涂鴉) as a distraction(精神渙散) from more important things. But it might be just the opposite.

One study shows that doodling may help you remember things you hear. In 2009 researchers asked two groups of people to listen to a phone message. One group 2 (encourage) to doodle, but the other was not. Neither group knew that it would be asked to remember information from the message. But the group that doodled remembered 29 percent more.

Other people 3 (suggest)other uses for drawing. Jesse Prinz, a professor who studies doodling, says it can help you think creatively. Walking away from a problem to draw

might actually help you solve it. When you come back, you 4 (have)a fresh perspective and figure out an answer more quickly.

Two years ago, an author named Sunni Brown 5 (write)a book on doodling. She argues that doodling is a tool that can help people think. She admits that people see doodling

improve organization and planning through doodling. Brown 6 (believe)doodling is helpful because it incorporates(整合)many ways of learning. You lean in four ways: seeing, hearing, reading or writing, and through movement. The more ways you use, the better you learn.

And when you doodle while you 7 (listen )to a lecture, you use all four.

You might think that being good at 8 ( draw)is important for doodling. But if the point of doodling is to help you think, then it doesn't matter what the picture looks like. Even if you're not an artist, doodling can help you. So next time you need help focusing, pick up a pen and doodle away!

【題目】 Devon Toomey had been on a website for an internation adoption many times and seen so many kids, but she’d never determined to email the agency about anyone until she came across a photo. It was a baby born without arms and legs. “on seeing him, I just knew he was the right one. There was just something that spoke to me,” she says.

Today, four years later, that boy, named Bowen Toomey, is a 5-year-old kindergartner with two older brothers living in Eagle, Idaho. He is keen on going to school, jumping on trampolines(蹦床), reading books and applying himself to difficult tasks.

But his physical disability means he can’t live normally like others: Where other children use their hands to handle things, Bowen sometimes uses his mouth or a special band he wears that lets him deal with things like a spoon.

“He does everything any other kids do: he just finds his way to solve different problems. He can ride his skate already,” his mother says. “He particularly loves to swim, and can dive and swim independently. I think he loves it so much because the water is the place where he really doesn’t have limitations限制.”

A former special education teacher, Toomey and her husband, Jeremy, knew they wanted to adopt. Nine months after she discovered Bowen on the website of a Serbian orphanage(孤兒院), located in Belgrade, the entire family went there to take home their 18-month-old addition.

Although Bowen had been well taken care of at the orphanage, he didn’t get much attention, and for the most part he was just laid in the bed.

The young boy responsed to his new family in a way that he surprised everyone. “We laid eyes on him and from that moment on, he became joyful, which really touched our hearts,” she says, “I said to myself, ‘it is no wonder that I wanted him the moment I saw him’. He is my child.”
