How Much Do You Pay Your Kids? Obamas’ $1 Allowance(零花錢)

Many children in America try to find the jobs during their holidays to earn their pocket money, including President Obama’s daughters Sasha and Malia. Obama gives his seven and ten-year-old daughters just a dollar a week each for the jobs they do. They help to do housework such as setting the table, washing dishes, and c1 their play areas and bedrooms.

Some people question if it is r2to give children allowances in this way. But most of the American parents believe that everyone in the family should be responsible for the housework. The people who agree with this point say that kids shouldn’t just get allowances for n3 , and that such payments can help kids learn it is not easy to get money -- this is the first l4of their money management skills. Most of the children in America are allowed to spend their allowances on the things they like. Many people think that kids can start receiving allowances around ages 4 or 5, when children start to understand how money w5in life.

How much should the children get from their jobs is another problem, especially in these tough economic times (經(jīng)濟(jì)困難時(shí)期). One way here can help the parents to make the decision: write down how m6 you spend on your child daily for two weeks and set an arrangement based on (基于) the average daily expenses. Then you will get the answer.

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文信息完成文后表格,每空一詞。

Making a public speech is the thing that most people don’t want to do. The reason is that we are all afraid of making mistakes in front of others. The more important the speech is, the more frightened we will be. But forget it now. Public speaking is easy. It’s just a simple talking Although I’m a shy man, I’ve been making speeches and talking on radio and television for more than 30 years. Anybody who can talk can speak in public. Here are some of the lessons I have learned

Keep your speech simple. Your audience can’t take all of your main ideas, and they can only remember one or two of them, not ten or twenty. So you should prepare one or two of your main ideas very well. But if you can’t express what you want to say then your speech will not be paid attention to. And if you don’t have a clear idea of what you want to say your audience won’t, either.

Organize your speech well. No matter how long or short your speech is, you have to organize your speech—how you are going to open or begin, what main points you want to make and how you’re going to close or end. A strong close is usually very important and critical(關(guān)鍵的) the last thing you say is what your audience will most likely remember. If not, they will be confused.

Keep your speech not long. The standard length of a speech is usually 12 minutes. Most people can’t put their minds in one thing for too long time, which will make them tired and lose their interest. If you pay no attention to your audience’s reaction(反應(yīng)),the audience will get bored. Of course, your speech will fail.

Following these suggestions above you can make a good speech in public, and you will be an excellent speaker, I think.

【題目】

At night, you fall asleep while listening to beautiful music.1You can enjoy all of these things because of one important organ (器官) — the ears. March 3 is Ear Care Day. It helps us remember the importance of our ears and encourages us to take good care of them.

You may wonder: how do the ears work? The ear has three different parts: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear, The outer ear is the part you can see.2The sound then travels down to middle ear, the inner ear and then to your brain.

3Your ears keep on hearing sounds, but your brain just ignores them. That’s why you may sometimes wake up suddenly in the middle of the night — your brain heard something, but you don’t know what it was, since you were asleep.

But ears do more than hear.4In the inner ear, there are organs that are filled with liquid and covered in small hairs. When you move your head, the liquid and hairs move, too. They send messages to your brain about the position (位置) of your head.

More surprisingly, ears even help with tasting food.5But there are nerves ( 神經(jīng)) running through the middle ear that connect the tongue to the brain.

The ears are truly important organs with many functions (功能). Everyone should make sure to protect their own ears as well as they can.

A. Of course, you don’t actually taste food with your ears.

B. Your ears never stop working, even when you are asleep!

C. In the morning, you are woken up by the singing of birds outside.

D. They help you keep your balance, too.

E. It collects sound around you.
