【題目】“What! You, too? I thought I was the only one.” Have you ever said this to someone? If so, you may have ended up becoming friends with this person.
It seems that similarity often helps form friendships. The Greek f philosopher (哲學(xué)家) Aristotle once said, “Some define (下定義) it ‘friendship’ as a matter of similarity; they say that we love those who are like ourselves.”
Now, there is some science behind this idea. Scientists from University of California said friends have similar brains, Scientific American reported.
The scientists invited 42 university students to take part in an experiment. Each student watched the same set of videos, which included a comedy f a discussion and a soccer match. Meanwhile, scientists study their brains and recorded their brain activity.
According to their study, friends who watched the same video clips reacted in similar ways. Similar parts of their brains lit up while watching the videos, especially parts that are connected with motivation (動力), learning and memory.
However, people who weren’t friends had different reactions to the same clips.
Having close friends whose brains read like ours “may be rewarding because it makes one’s own values, opinions, and interests strength,” lead scientist Carolyn Parkinson told Business Insider.
But brain similarity is not the only thing that can result in friendship. Scientists from the University of Leipzig, Germany, found that friendship is also based on how physically close you are to someone.
They did an experiment with first-year college students who met in class for the first time. In this experiment, students who sat in neighboring seats were more likely to become friends.

【題目】 It is often said that elderly people don’t understand youngsters, while many believe that children are too young to fully appreciate the wisdom ( 智 慧 ) of their elders. But in truth, both groups have a lot to learn from each other.
Sister Geraldine Tan runs the St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged and Hospice in Singapore. It’s mainly a facility (機構(gòu)) for serving the elderly. But not all of its visitors are senior citizens (老年人).
The home also includes a childcare center for about 50 kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old. At the center of the home’s courtyard (庭院), there’s a playground where the elderly can play with the kids. By doing so, they can learn more about each other and gain mutual ( 相 互 的 ) respect and understanding.
I think this is quite an interesting idea. For one thing, we live in a world where aging societies are becoming more common. China itself is facing this problem as its population ages. It will be important for young people to be able to understand and care for the elderly in the coming decades (數(shù)十年).
Sadly, my own grandparents weren’t around when I was little, as they had already passed away. I never got to learn what the world was like through their eyes, or what kinds of challenges they might have faced when they were my age. Their lives will always be a mystery to me.
But I suppose I can still learn from other people of older generations. I might find some of their ideas old-fashioned, and they might believe that my generation’s way of thinking is strange or incorrect. But we can still learn from each other anyway.
【1】What is special about the Singaporean facility?
A.It is actually a childcare center.B.Not every visitor is allowed to go there.
C.It accepts both elderly people and kids.D.The elderly help take care of kids there.

B.the St. Joseph’s Home mainly serves senior people
C.the writer has no brothers or sisters
D.about 50 kids between the ages of 6 months and 2 years old are in the St. Joseph’s Home
【4】In Paragraph 5, the writer tells us that________.
A.we should cherish our grandparentsB.we should see the world in a more traditional way
C.grandparents face many challengesD.grandparents’ lives are full of mystery
【5】What opinion might the writer agree with?
A.Elderly people don’t understand youngsters.
B.Youngsters can’t appreciate elderly people’s wisdom.
