【題目】I to be popular in school, but now I get attention everywhere I go.

A.wasn’t used; manyB.didn’t use; tons ofC.used not; many

【答案】B

【解析】

句意:我過去在學校不受歡迎,但現(xiàn)在我走到哪里都受到很多關注。

考查used to的否定及修飾不可數(shù)名詞的詞的用法。分析第一處可知,此處表示“過去不”,即used to的否定形式,可用didn’t use toused not to表示,排除A。

Are you single or married? Are you a cat or a dog owner? Do you exercise, or are you a “couch potato”?

These questions and many others are about your lifestyle.

People in the United States feel that they can choose their lifestyles and even shape their own identities (身份). The great variety of lifestyles leads to constant national discussion of choices that people make.

This freedom of choice is fun and exciting, but it also creates stress and uncertainty. In newspapers, lifestyle issues are discussed in the features or style section. In The Chicago Tribune this section is called “Tempo”. People turn to this section for lively discussion on lifestyle choices they face with regard to their personal identities, their families, and their social lives.

Many American people believe that they can make their lives happy and satisfying despite their problems. If they lack confidence or tend to feel anxious, shy, angry, or depressed, they believe that they can change themselves. Self-help books, magazines, and feature articles are filled with advice from experts about steps to take to become a happier or more satisfied person and to improve one’s self-respect. Part of this research for self-improvement is a belief that even one’s own appearance can be controlled. This is why there are so many articles in the newspaper about looking young, wearing the latest fashions, and becoming physically fit.

Lifestyle choices also involve moral(道德的) and social issues. How should children be raised? How should people behave on a date? How should elderly people be treated? How can people stay happily married? All these kinds of issues are constantly discussed and are constantly changing. In the newspaper, feature articles discuss in detail the personal lives or public work of movie stars, authors, artists, and exceptional individuals(杰出人物)who are not stars. The lifestyle choices these people make contribute to the public discussion of all the issues that people think about.

A well-known advertising slogan is “Just do it.” In the culture of the United States, people believe that they can take action and become the kind of people they want to be and live the way they want to live.

【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

World Kindness Day is a celebration which takes place on 13 November each year. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. It is celebrated in many countries, including Canada, Japan, Australia and some other countries. World Kindness Day is celebrated to highlight acts of kindness passing on the positive(正面的)power.

Why be kind? Few people would disagree with the idea that a kind action is good for the soul(靈魂). It is a win-win situation because it leads to a sense of well-being both for thereceiver of this kind action, as well as for the person who does the action. As a simple example, let's imagine you have a workmate who always does a very good job. How about taking a moment to mention this to them, just in conversation or perhaps by email? The effects of this will probably be quite clear: your workmate will be happy to receive some praise and, in addition, you will probably feel good about yourself for having spread a little joy.

Many organisations try to encourage people to be kind, wherever and whenever they can. Perhaps the strongest supporters of this idea are the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Foundation. The RAK website suggests some ways to show kindness. Generally, these fall into three categories. The first is interpersonal kindness. Some examples are giving old clothes to charity(慈善機構) or writing a good comment about a restaurant that you like. The second is environmental kindness, which could mean simply recycling or organising a group event to clean a local park or beach. The third category is less obvious: personal kindness, which means treating yourself kindly. Some examples are taking a walk in nature or setting yourself an objective to complain less. The logic is that by being kind to yourself, you will surely be kinder to the world around you.

Most experts on kindness agree that it has a sort of ripple effect. This means that one kind action is more likely to lead to more and more. So don't wait for kindness to find you today, go and start a new ripple!

1When is World Kindness Day?

2Why is World Kindness Day celebrated?

3Why should people be kind?

4According to RAK, what does"personal kindness” mean?
