【題目】 Umbrellas are certainly one of life’s necessary helpers. But as anyone ever caught in a heavy rain will tell you, they’re far from perfect. So, many creative designers made efforts to challenge. Here are three unusual umbrellas that can solve the rainy day problems:

Senz

Problem: Common umbrellas love to invert(翻轉(zhuǎn)) when it’s windy.

The Senz umbrella changes the found shape into the one that is long in the back and short in the front. The design is much stronger against even strong against even strong winds, and according to their tests, it won 't invert in a windy storm

Kazbrella

Problem: Once closed, umbrellas drip(滴水)all over everything and they need a lot of room to open up.

The Kazbrella tries to solve this problem. It opens in a special way. When closed, it looks like the common umbrella upside down, but when it opens, it is similar to the common one. The design allows the wet side of the umbrella to be inside once you fold it. As a result, getting in and out of your car is not a problem. You can close Kazbrella into the smallest space of a car door, remaining dry.

Rain shield

Problem: Rain can hit you from all directions.

In the face of a heavy rainstorm, a little more surface area would be a big help. So the Rain Shield has been given an extension(延伸)to one side, giving the protection from the side way rain and lowering the risk of being invert. And its bendy (彎曲)design means it is easy to take.

Don't you think that these umbrellas are fascinating? The good news is that you can buy Sen and Kazbrellas in London now.

The Blood Group Alphabet

Sometimes people lose too much blood from injuries or accidents. To save their lives, doctors must replace the lost blood. In an operation called a transfusion, doctors put blood given by healthy people into the veins(靜脈)of the sick or injured person. But they must be careful. Although all blood looks the same, there are really different types of blood. Someone getting the wrong type of blood in a transfusion may become very sick or even die.

All blood is made up of red and white cells, and a liquid(液體)called plasma(血漿). It is the red cells that cause blood to be different types. On the outside of the red cells of some people's blood are proteins(蛋白質(zhì)). Doctors group these proteins into two different classes, A and B. People with the A protein have Type A blood, while people with the B protein have B type blood. If someone happens to have both proteins, that person has Type AB blood. Some people don't have either protein, and their blood is called Type O.

If a person receives a transfusion of the wrong type of blood, the body senses the strange protein on the new blood cells. So the body destroys the new blood, and the patient goes into shock. For example, people with Type A blood will become very sick if they are given Type B protein because their bodies try to destroy the strange Type B protein. People with Type O blood have no proteins on their cells, so their bodies will destroy both Type A and Type B blood. They can only receive Type O blood. But people with Type AB blood have both proteins, so they can receive Type A, Type B and Type AB blood. These people are called Universal Receivers. People of any type can receive Type O blood because it has no protein for the body to fight against. So Type O people are called Universal Donors.

Doctors are always careful to test blood for its type before it is used in a transfusion. Although the wrong type of blood can be harmful, the right type can save a life.

1What is the blood made up of?

2How many classes do doctors group the proteins into?

3What type of blood does the person have if someone doesn't have either protein?

【題目】

I am Turere. I come from Kitengela, a farming community on the edge (邊緣) of Nairobi National Park of Kenya (肯尼亞). Since the age of nine, I have helped to look after my family’s cows. As a child, in my free time, I enjoyed playing with electronics. I made my own inventions, such as electronics toys from car parts and other things. I also built other electronic devices (儀器) for my neighbors.

At the age of 13, I invented something that changed my life. It also changed the lives of many people in my community. One night, a lion from the park came into my family’s farm and killed one of our cows. I was angry. However, killing the lion, I thought, was not the best way to solve the problem. Instead, I decided to invent a solution.

The first idea I got was to use fire, because I thought lions were scared of fire. But I came to realize that didn't really help, because it was even helping the lions to see through the cowshed (牛棚). So I didn't give up. I continued.

And a second idea I got was to use a scarecrow (稻草人). I was trying to trick the lions into thinking that I was standing near the cowshed. But lions are very clever. They will come the first day and they see the scarecrow, and they go back. But the second day, they'll come and they say, this thing is not moving here, it is always here! So he jumps in and kills the animal.

So one night, I was walking around the cowshed with a torch (手電筒), and that day the lions didn’t come. And I discovered that lions were afraid of a moving light. So I had an idea ...
