【題目】 My summer hols wr CWOT. B4, we usd 2 go 2 NY 2C my bro, his GF & thr 3: @ kids FTF. ILNY, it's gr8.
Can you understand this sentence? If you can't, don't feel too bad. Neither could the middle school teacher in England who received this as homework. This is Netspeak: the language of computerized communication found on Internet or mobile phones. To newcomers, it may look like a completely foreign language. So, what is the ‘translation' of the sentence above? It means: My summer holidays were a complete waste of time. Before, we used to go to New York to see my brother, his girlfriend, and their three screaming kids face to face. I love New York, it's great.
Schoolteachers and parents say this new form of writing is harming the English language. Increasing spelling and grammatical mistakes can be seen in students' writing. They fear the language could become corrupted(面目全非的).
Everyone should just relax, say linguists(語言學(xué)家). They believe Netspeak is in fact more of a good thing. David Crystal, from the University of Wales, argues that Netspeak and Internet create a new language use and the almost lost art of diary writing has been picked up again. Geoffrey Nunberg, from Stanford University, agrees. "People get better at writing by writing," he says, "Kids who are now doing text messaging, e-mail, and instant messages will write at least as well as, and possibly better than, their parents."
Linguist James Milroy says, for centuries, it is believed without exception that young people are harming the language. And you can bet your bottom dollar that when today's teenagers become tomorrow's parents, they too will think this way. Milroy argues that languages do not and cannot become "corrupted"; they simply change to meet the new needs.
However, Netspeakers do agree that it is important to teach young people how to speak and write Standard English. Cynthia McVey says, "I can understand Netspeak worries teachers and it's important that they get across to their pupils that text messaging is for fun, but that learning to write proper English is a must for their future."
Perhaps we should give teenagers a little more trust anyway. Erin, age 12, says, "I wouldn't use text language in my homework. Texting is just for fun"
【1】What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To give an example of a foreign language.B.To show an example of creative methods.
C.To express worries about using Netspeak.D.To lead in the topic of Netspeak.
【2】Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.Cynthia McVey points out teenagers can deal with Netspeak properly.
B.Geoffrey Nunberg believes Netspeakers can write Standard English.
C.David Crystal thinks Netspeak helps develop the habit of writing.
D.James Milroy says that language is changing and improving.
【3】The expression "bet your bottom dollar" in Paragraph 5 means ________.
A.be fairly sureB.be greatly surprisedC.think it a pityD.find it interesting

【題目】 A study led by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health shows for the first time that exposure(接觸)to green space during childhood may have beneficial(有益的)effects on brain development.
The study was performed among 253 schoolchildren from the BREATHE project in Barcelona (Spain). Lifelong exposure to green space in the living places was recorded—using the satellite—based information on the children's addresses from birth up through to the time of the study. Brain structure was studied using 3D MRI(核磁共振圖像). Working memory and inattentiveness were graded with computers.
The primary schoolchildren who have been raised in homes surrounded by more greenspace tend to present with larger volumes of white and grey matter in certain areas of the brain. These differences are connected with beneficial effects on cognitive function(認(rèn)知功能). Moreover, larger volumes of white and grey matter might lead to better working memory and less inattentiveness.
"This is the first study that shows the connection between long—term exposure to green space and brain structure." Says, the leading researcher of the study, "Our findings suggest that exposure to green space early in life could result in beneficial structural changes in the brain. It also shows the lasting effects of early life exposure to greenness on our health."
This study also suggests that it is beneficial to increase greenness in cities. Green space can provide children with chances for psychological restoration(心理康復(fù))and prompt important exercises in discovery, creativity and risk taking. These exercises in turn positively(肯定地)influence different aspects of brain development. What's more, greener areas often have lower levels of air pollution, which could bring indirect benefits for brain development.
Anyway, further studies are needed to prove the findings in other populations, settings and climates. And researchers need to examine differences according to the nature and quality of green space.
【1】The second paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.how the study was carried outB.what was recorded in the study
C.how long the study lastedD.who took part in the study
【2】The word "prompt" in Paragraph 5 probably means " ________".
A.controlB.encourageC.balanceD.change
【3】What can we learn from the passage?
A.Working memory influences white and grey matter in the brain.
B.Dr. Dadvand stressed the importance of changing the environment.
C.This study proved the influence of greenness on populations outside of Spain.
D.Larger volumes of white and grey matter might lead to better working memory.
【4】What is the best title of the passage?
A.The greener space children grow up in, the longer they live.
B.Growing up in the green area may do good to brain development.
C.Early life exposure to greenness may have lasting effects on health.
D.More outdoor green space leads to a greater increase in inattentiveness.

【題目】 Text messaging, or simply "texting", which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.
The advantages(優(yōu)勢) of texting are obvious(明顯的). Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second. Texting helps you to "talk" to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to "talk" to someone secretly if you don't want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.
However, texting has its disadvantages. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can't receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.
What's more, if you don't do texting properly, for example, texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries(傷害) and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, the USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don't notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the USA are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

【題目】 Refrigerators are widely used in our kitchens. Do you often clean your refrigerator? If you haven't cleaned it for a long time, clean it right away. Refrigerators need to be cleaned very often. Do you know how to clean a refrigerator?
1.Take all the food out of your refrigerator. Place it on a table or counter so that your refrigerator is completely emptied out.The best time for this may be before your weekly shopping tip. There will be fewer things that you need to move out of your refrigerator.
2.Throw out some items. You can check the expiration date(有效期). Then you will know which items should be thrown out. You can also throw away items that you are unlikely to use. If no one in your family likes olives, throw them away.
3.Take out shelves, drawers or other movable parts from your refrigerator and wash them, In order to wash them more quickly, you can place them near the kitchen sink(洗碗槽). For a quick clean, you don't have to take out all shelves. You'd better do it if you want a deep clean.
4. Clean the inside of the refrigerator. You can clean it with a clean cloth. A dry cloth will be a better choice. Don't forget to clean the inside of the refrigerator door. If there is something dirty that is not easy to clean, you can use a chemical cleaner.
