【題目】 Text messaging, or simply "texting", which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.
The advantages(優(yōu)勢(shì)) of texting are obvious(明顯的). Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second. Texting helps you to "talk" to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to "talk" to someone secretly if you don't want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.
However, texting has its disadvantages. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can't receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.
What's more, if you don't do texting properly, for example, texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries(傷害) and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, the USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don't notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the USA are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所讀內(nèi)容,在文章后小題的空格里填入一個(gè)最恰當(dāng)?shù)膯卧~。注意:每個(gè)空格只填一個(gè)單詞
Goals are the guides all through our life. We all have goals that we are moving towards and making a great effort to achieve. This is a good thing. Or can it be bad? How many of us never reach our goals and yet we have tried so hard and really thought about nothing else? I believe the mistake most of us make is that we do not focus(集中) on our present situation.
Let me explain. Most of us see our present situation as a stepping stone that we use simply as a means of reaching our final destination(終點(diǎn)). We don’t take time to truly appreciate(感激) where we are today and all the great things we already have in our lives. We should focus our attention on the journey and not on the destination, or we will miss the beautiful scenery along the way.
Let’s use our job as an example. Now most of us want a promotion. We have plans to become the manager or general manager in our companies. Unfortunately, most of us will never reach the goal, but will watch others achieve our goal instead.
What we should be doing is focusing on the job we are currently in now. Forget where we want to get to and just focus on the present. You see, what we can control is our performance in our current job. We can decide to be the best we possibly can in our current job. Now this may mean further education to have the skills we currently do not have. It may mean working harder to produce better results than our colleagues(同事). It could simply be a change of attitude(態(tài)度), such as stopping complaining and becoming a more devoted and supportive employee. By doing our current job to the best of our abilities, we in fact give ourselves the best chance of promotion(晉升).
So the best thing for all of us to do to achieve our goals is to just focus on what we have and where we are now. Do the best and be the best we possibly can in our current situations, and we will give ourselves the very best chance of reaching our goals in the future. We have heard the old sayings and they are true: “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” “Patience is a virtue(美德).” and so on.
Have patience, have appreciation for what we already have, and take time to help ourselves be the very best we can. Do these things and we will all reach our goals, but more importantly, we will enjoy our life every day.

【題目】 Silk. The word itself is beautiful. The story of silk starts in China over 4,000 years ago. It is said that a cocoon(繭)fell into a woman’s tea cup. It then opened into a single thread(線). This was an important discovery. The Chinese learned they could use the cocoons of silkworms(蠶)to make clothes, both beautiful to look at and soft to touch.
Making silk was a secret in China for many years. In other countries, silk was hardly seen and valuable. Often it was worth more than gold. By the year 1 A.D., silk was sold as far west as Rome, and all along the Silk Road. It connected China with places in the Middle East and Europe. Thanks to the Silk Road, the communication between China and West was greatly improved. Centuries later, in 1522, the Spanish brought silkworms to Mexico.
Now people around the world still make many beautiful things from silk. But silk isn’t only beautiful. It looks delicate, but it’s very strong. For example, it has been used to make bicycle tires(輪胎). Silk is also light and warm. This makes it great for clothes like winter jackets.

【題目】 If you are in Shanghai and want to throw away a cup of milk tea, be careful. You need to follow these steps: first, pour out any leftover into a wet waste bin; second, put the paper wrapper into a recyclable waste bin; third, throw the single-use cup into a dry waste bin.
Sound difficult and annoying? You'll have to get used to it. From July 1st on, people in Shanghai are required to sort their garbage according to strict rules.
Why should we sort our garbage? The answer lies in the increasing amount of waste we are producing. Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year, according to China Economic Net. Most of this waste is buried in landfills, which may pollute the water and soil. Moreover, we are running out of space for new landfills.
In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable garbage can be made into new materials. For example, wet garbage can be used to make gas, heat and many other kinds of useful things. But in order to recycle garbage efficiently, we need to sort our garbage.
Can't garbage-processing companies do the sorting job focus? They can. But that requires a lot of work and costs lots of money. Things will become much easier if each of us can sort our own garbage. Besides, the annoying task of sorting might encourage people to produce less waste. Do you still want to buy that milk tea?
