The Internet is becoming more and more important in our life. You can get a lot of information, make friends. share your ideas, send emails and chat at any time or anywhere. However, imagine you receive an email that looks something like this: ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY? How does reading this message make you feel? Why did the sender use all capital(大寫(xiě)) letters? Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the ‘Cap lock’ on the computer? The fact is, using all capital letters in an email means that people shout online. Virginia Shea’ s book, Netiquette, lists some ways of communicating(交流) properly with others on the Internet. Following are some of her suggestions.
◆First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. Don’t write anything that you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. Also, remember that the receiver cannot hear your voice, or see the expression(表情)on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.
◆Don’t do anything online that you wouldn’t do in real life. Don’t take anything without paying for it . Don’t use information that someone else has written, and say it’s yours. Don’t read other people’s email—you wouldn’t open your next –door neighbor’s mailbox and open their mail, right? Do share your knowledge of the Internet with others. It’s a big place with lots of information, and there are many new things to discover.
◆Remember that people judge(判斷) you by your words as well as your actions, so do try to write well. Send polite, well-written email messages to others. If you’re not sure about how to spell a word or which phrase to use, look it up. There are lots of helpful books and websites.
◆It’s OK to share your ideas online like chat rooms or message boards, but don’t argue(爭(zhēng)吵) with people . ‘Flame wars’ in online discussions can be interesting to read, but are often unfair(不公平) to other members of the group. Share your ideas, but remember that fighting on or offline is just not correct.
When you’re online, just as in ‘real’ life, try to respect (尊重) other people’s space and feelings. Remember, you’re not the only one traveling on this highway!
【小題1】Does it mean shouting if someone writes an email using all capital letters?
【小題2】Why is it important in emails to make sure your meaning clear
【小題3】What do you do if you don’t know how to spell a word?
【小題4】How many suggestions are mentioned in the passage?

Mo, the first Nobel winner in literature born and living in China, said he had trouble with the sudden publicity, which put a lot of pressure on him.

"I only hope to return to my writing desk as soon as possible, and I would also like to do well in society anonymously.(無(wú)名地)" Mo said. He was bothered by a large number of requests asking him to offer help that took advantage of his fame. " I was upset the first several days after the prize announcement, but then I realized the prize is just like a mirror that reflects various attitudes about my winning, and more, reflects the real me," Mo said. "I still consider myself an ordinary citizen who writes. And presenting quality works is my duty and best way of giving back to society. I'm no superstar," he emphasized(強(qiáng)調(diào)) several times.

Mo believes Chinese literature has achieved much in the past thirty years, and the driving force behind that is not the prize. Writers' creations should not be driven by awards, or criticism, or readers' expectations. Mo said he misunderstood the standards of the academy's selection before he visited Stockholm(斯德哥爾摩) to receive the prize in December.

"I thought they were judging the authors' personality or political features, then I learned the sole standard of their selection is literature itself, which is also deeply based in the Swedish people's long-established practice of reading a large number of books," Mo said.

During the forum, established Chinese and Australian writers discussed subjects as diverse as tradition and modernity, the local and the universe and cultural inclusiveness. And they will also read works to each other and the readers. The writers communication will further promote(推動(dòng)) Chinese writers to a global audience.

Australian Ambassador(大使) to China Frances Adamson agreed. "It's a milestone (驅(qū)動(dòng))of literary exchanges between the two countries, who are longtime friends," Adamson said.

It was at least tow months before Christmas, when nine-year-old Almie Rose told her father and me that she wanted a new bike. Her Barbi bike was just too old, and it needed repairing as well.

As Christmas came nearer, her dream for a bike seemed to disappear, so we thought, for she didn’t mention it again. We were busy buying some beautiful storybooks, a doll house, a holiday dress and toys. Then much to our surprise, on December 24, she said she really wanted a bike more than anything else.

Now we didn’t know what to do. It was just toot late. We were busy with Christmas dinner and packing children’s presents, parents’ presents, a brother’s present and friends’ presents till midnight. So there was no time to take to buy the “right bike” for our little girl. Suddenly my husband came up with an idea. “What if I make a little bike out of clay(泥土) and write a note(便條) that she could trade in(交換) the model bike for a real one?” So he spent the next five hours carefully working with the clay to make a small bike.

On Christmas morning, we were so excited for Almie Rose to open the little box with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. She opened and read the note loudly.

She looked at me and Ron and said, ”So does this mean I can trade in this bike for a real one?” Smiling, I said, “Yes.”
