If you go into the forest with friends who are older than you are, stay with them. If you don't, you may get lost. If you get lost, this is what you should do.
Sit down and stay where you are. Don't try to find your friends--let them find you. You can help them to find you by staying in one place.
There is another way you can help your friends or other people to find you. Give them a signal(信號(hào)) by shouting three times. Stop. Then shout three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up the shouting, always three times together. Then the people who hear you will know than you are not just making noise for fun(開(kāi)玩笑). They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give two shouts. When a signal is given twice it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don't think you will be found before nights comes, get some branches(樹(shù)枝). Try to put them together so that they make a little house. Cover up the holes with branches that have lots of leaves. Make yourself a soft bed with leaves and grass.
What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You should leave your little branch house to look for a river. Don't just walk away. Make a trail(痕跡) for yourself so you find your way back. Do this by picking off small branches and dropping them as you walk.
The most important thing to do when you are lost is----STAY IN ONE PLACE.

There are many things we need to know, but we do not learn them at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare (比較) the prices of the things in different shops. We also need to know how to make the best choice when we shop. Knowing how to make such choices is a life skill, and we need to practice it in our daily life.

David's got a text message from his friend Sam. Can you understand it? 7,15 20,15 20,8,5 16,1,18,11 This message was in code (密碼, 代碼). How many letters are there in the English alphabet? Twenty-six. So can you read it now?
B instead of C, and so on. His message to Sam shown on the right was very short. Can you understand?
she felt puzzled. She couldn't read it at all. But David was very happy that his sister couldn't read his message! Lots of people use codes to send secret messages. In a war, secrets are very important so soldiers often send each other messages in code. Nowadays, we can use computers to make and break difficult codes. Even before computers, people invented other machines to do this. Here's a famous machine that Germans used in the Second World War (1941-1945). It's called the Enigma Machine. The machines were very big, heavy and expensive. Every day they changed the codes automatically, and this made it almost impossible for anyone to break the codes. The person sending a message had one machine, and the person receiving the message had another. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
