【題目】Do you want to know how and why a fall leaf changes color? We first have to understand what leaves are and what they do.

Leaves are the world’s food factories. Plants take water from the ground through their roots and take CO2 from the air. Plants use sunlight to turn water and CO2into glucose(葡萄糖), a kind of sugar. Plants use it as food for energy and growing.

A chemical called“chlorophyll”in the leaves gives plants their green colour. As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter, and trees “know” to begin getting ready for winter.

During winter, there is not enough sunlight or water. Trees rest during this time and live on the food they store during the summer. They begin to shut down their food-making factories. As the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves, we begin to see yellow and orange leaves.

The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in autumn. In some trees, like maples, sunlight and the cool nights of autumn turn the glucose in the leaves into a red colour. And we can enjoy the beautiful red leaves during autumn.

1Which should be in the box? sunlight++CO2glucose

A.airB.sugarC.waterD.wind

2The underlined word “chlorophyll” means __________.

A.葉綠素B.脂肪C.蛋白質(zhì)D.淀粉

3The leaves turn yellow because they are short of(缺少) __________.

A.water and CO2

B.glucose and energy

C.sunlight and water

D.sunlight and CO2

4Which of the following is NOT true?

A.When autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter.

B.During winter trees live on the food they store in summer.

C.During winter some of yellow and orange colors are still in the leaves.

D.Trees begin to stop making food in summer.

5This passage tells us_____________.

A.the plants can grow well only with the sunlight

B.there are all kinds of plants on the earth

C.not all the colors of the leaves are from chlorophyll

D.maple leaves change the color as other trees

【題目】

If you see a group of people dancing and singing on the street or in the railway station, you don't need to feel surprised. They are a flash mob(快閃族). A flash mob, organized with the help of the Internet or other communications networks, is a group of people who come together suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a period of time, such as coming together to look at the sky, shouting something at the top of their voices for 30 seconds, and then quickly disappear before the police can arrive.

Using mobile phones, the flash mob can change its place if the first one has been replaced for any reason. Bill Wasik, a senior editor, organized the first flash mob in Manhattan in May,2003 and the first successful flash mob came together on June 3,2003—after the first try was foiled at Macy's department store. Following this, about 200 people crowded into the hall of the Hyatt hotel, applauding(鼓掌)in one voice for fifteen seconds, and next the mob pretending(假裝)to be tourists on a bus trip entered a shoe shop in Soho. Wasik said that he created flash mobs as a social experiment designed to make fun of hipsters(時(shí)尚潮人).

Though flash mobs were firstly regarded as pointless, the idea has already developed for the benefit of political(政治的)and social events. Flash mobbing takes advantage of the effect of communicating information on Websites and by email, and protesters(抗議者)can similarly use it to be involved in political events.

Flash mob gatherings can sometimes surprise people. Such an activity might seem amusing and fantastic, but it also might frighten people who are not clear about what is taking place. Undoubtedly, flash mobs can serve as good political tools in any direction. They also have big economic potential(經(jīng)濟(jì)潛力), such as using flash mobs to advertise a product.

Flash mobs give people an opportunity to come together to create a memory.

A.praisedB.preventedC.confusedD.succeeded

2Why did Bill Wasik create the flash mob?

A.To help people make friends.B.To advertise some products.

C.To create some memories.D.To make fun of hipsters.

3What can we infer about the flash mob from the passage?

A.It can be made use of in many fields just for fun.

B.It usually breaks up quickly for not having enough time.

C.If the place for the activity is decided, it can't be changed.

D.It gives people the chance to do something unusual together.

4Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?

A.Flash Mob: the Popular Culture

B.Flash Mob: the Political Potential

【題目】

A woman was at the airport waiting for her flight to start boarding. She still had a lot of time, so she went to a shop and bought a book to read. While she was in the shop, she decided to buy a bag of cookies as well.

She arrived at her gate, sat down and started reading her book. She read her book so attentively that she didn’t notice what was going on around her. But she did see that a man had sat down next to her and taken one of her cookies out of the bag.

She pretended not to notice, as she didn’t want to make a scene (當(dāng)眾大吵). But then the man took more. He kept eating the cookies until there was just one left. The man took the last cookie and broke it in half. He tapped the woman on the shoulder and held out one half to her.

The woman could not believe how much nerve this man had to steal all of her cookies and then offer half a cookie in return. She angrily grabbed (奪取) the half-cookie out of his hand and ate it without any words.

Finally, it was time for her to board. As she went to the gate, she reached into her purse. Suddenly, she realized that her bag of cookies was still in her purse. The man had eaten his own cookies the whole time and simply wanted to share the last one with her. The woman’s face turned red with shame. Therefore, she quickly caught up with him and said, “ 93 .”

When we’re not paying attention to the world around us, it can be easy to misunderstand what’s happening or even become angry with others. It is better to keep our eyes open and think about every possibility when trying to understand a particular situation.

1Did the woman arrive at the airport so early?

2Why couldn’t the woman notice what happened around her at all?

3What did the man do with the last cookie?

4How did the woman feel when she was offered the half-cookie?

5When did the woman realize her mistake?

6What did the woman probably say to the man? Please fill in the blank in paragraph 5 with at least TWO sentences.
