【題目】 You must still remember Typhoon(臺風) Hato, Pakhar, Mawar and Hurricane(颶風) Harvey. These storms have been harming Asia and North America during the last few months in 2017. But have you ever wondered where the names of storms come from?

During World War II, US military (軍隊的) weathermen named hurricanes after their girlfriends or wives. It was easy to remember. So after the war, women’s names continued to be used for storms. Finally in 1979, men’s names started to be used, too.

Now, the WMO(世界氣象組織) is responsible for(負責) hurricane names. They keep six lists of names, with one list used each year. This means each name will be reused every six years. So, the 2011 name list is now being used again in 2017.

However, if a storm is especially damaging (破壞巨大的), such as 2005’s Katrina, that storm’s name will not be used again.

Typhoons are the brother of hurricanes, though they happen in the Pacific Ocean instead of the Atlantic Ocean (where hurricanes usually take place).

The new naming system for typhoons has been used since 2000. The WMO asked each of its 14 members in the Asia Pacific area to hand in a list of 10 names. Members include China, Japan and South Korea.

But instead of picking human names, scientists decided to name typhoons after animals, plants, places and even food.

根據上面的短文內容填空。

1During World War II, a weatherman in the US army would name a hurricane after ___________________________. To him, it was __________________________.

2Now ______________________ is supposed to think of all hurricane names. In 2018, they should use the _________________ name list.

3No storm will be called ________________ any more, as the storm with the same name in 2005 was ___________________________.

4Only the 14 WMO members in ___________________________ are required to prepare names for typhoons. That’s probably because __________________________________.

5This article mainly tells us how __________________________________. We also know scientists now prefer not to use _____________________ to name typhoons.

【題目】 Australia is a country of immigrants(移民). Around 50 percent of students in Melbourne come from other countries. Therefore, we read many articles about foreigners’ lives in Australia. Teachers ask us to find our own identity (身份) from these articles. In the course English as an Additional Language, we read a picture book called Tales from Outer Suburbia by an Australian writer Shaun Tan.

The book has lots of short stories. Among them, I like Inner Courtyard(內庭,內院) best. It is about an Italian family. They moved to Australia, but they couldn’t fit into the new environment and complained a lot. However, one day they found an inner courtyard by accident. The things in it were from their home country. Then the secret courtyard became a little paradise (天堂) for them. They relaxed, played games and had a picnic there.

As an international student, I totally understand the value(價值) of the inner courtyard for every family, especially an immigrant family. I face the same problems when I study and live in Melbourne. Everything is different, including language and habit, and I have to fit into all of it. It’s so painful that sometimes I miss China very much. That’s why we need the inner courtyard to have a rest and escape from reality (現實) for a while. For me, it’s my bedroom. I decorate it with postcards of China and Chinese books. I collect some Australian souvenirs (紀念品), which make my inner courtyard colorful.

1How many students in Melbourne come from other countries? __________________________________

2Who is Tales from Outer Suburbia written by? __________________________________

3What is Inner Courtyard about? __________________________________

4Which country does the writer of the passage come from? __________________________________

5For the writer of the passage, which room is his inner courtyard? __________________________________
