【題目】—Can you catch what Mr. Xu said about the physics problem during class?

—Er, not ________, I think I’d better go and ask him for more information.

A.humorouslyB.exactlyC.carelessly

I think I’d better go and ask him for more information可知,應(yīng)該是沒有完全聽懂,故選B。

The Cost of Thinking

Though humans have many differences, they share several typical characteristics(特征),such as large brains and the ability to walk upright on two legs.

The first human characteristic is humans' large brains. Mammals(哺乳動(dòng)物)weighing sixty kilos have an average(平均)brain size of 200 cm'. Modern man has a brain averaging 1,200~1400 cm3. The larger, the betterUnluckily, that is not the case.

The bigger our brain isthe more energy is needed. It's not easy to carry aroundespecially when boxed inside a large skull(顱骨). It's even harder to provide energy. In modern man,the brain is about 2-3% of total body weight but it needs 25%of the body's energy when the body is at rest. But the brains of apes(類人猿)require only 8% of rest-time energy. How did early humans pay for their large brains?Firstly, they spent more time in search of food. Secondly, their muscles(肌肉)grew smaller and weaker.

Another human characteristic is that we walk upright. Standing up,it's easier to find food or enemies. In addition, their arms that are unnecessary for moving around are freed for other purposes, like throwing stones or showing body languages. As a resulthumans can perform very different tasks with their hands.

Yet walking upright has its downsides. The bones(骨頭)have to support a large skull. That causes backaches and painful necks. A large brain makes many advantages. It seems that these have made humans the most powerful animal on earth. But humans enjoyed all of these advantages for a full 2 million years during which they were weak, small and not important.

Dear Dr Know,

My mom decides and cares about nearly everything in my life-my clothes, my after-school classes, even who I hang out with. I know she does these because she loves me, but it's really annoying and it makes me stressful, What can I do?

Mike

Dear Mike,

I can understand you.

You're right when you say that she does these things because she loves you. It's quite possible that she does them because she still regards you as a young child.

But on the other hand, as you are getting older, you will need to be more independent. Your mom might not want to hear this. Why not sit down and have a talk with her and explain that you want to exercise your independence more? Tell her that you can deal with some things on your own, and you will ask her for help when needed. Hope my suggestions helpful.

Dr. Know

1Mike tells Dr. Know his happiness because of his mom' s love.

2Dr Know can't understand Mike's feelings.

3Mike wants to make some decisions by himself.

4Dr. Know thinks communicating is a good way to solve Mike's problem.

5Mike’ s mom does few things for him in the family.

【題目】 You will see a new doctor at a hospital near London if you go there. He’s very clever, but he never speaks and has not been to a medical school. He can work 24 hours and never gets tired. He’s one meter tall and has a face like a TV screen. He’s Dr Robot.

Doctors often need to ask their patients many questions. Busy doctors usually ask each patient a few questions. But Dr Robot can ask a patient questions for an hour if it is necessary. With the help of Dr Robot, a human doctor can have a lot of information when he meets his patient. How can Dr Robot do this? A computer “tells” him what to do. Dr Robot can do lots of things people can do, though he cannot completely take the place of the human doctors.
