【題目】A student asked his teacher,“What is Greed(貪婪)?” The teacher said,“To find the answer to your question,go to the chocolate factory next to our school and pick the one chocolate you like best. But there is a rule.As you pass through the factory, you cannot turn back. You must pick the chocolate as you go forward only.”
The student went to the chocolate factory. As he walked through,he saw one chocolate wrapped(包裝) nicely. He really liked it but he thought that he might find a much bigger one later. So,he walked further and saw another chocolate. But again,he thought the same and took nothing. When he reached near the end of the factory,he couldn't see any chocolates as big as the one he didn't pick earlier and started to regret his decision of letting it go.
Finally,he gave up.He went back to the teacher with empty hands and explained what he had done.
The teacher told him,“You liked one chocolate very much but you still kept looking for a bigger one.And later you realized what you missed was the best chocolate you could find there. That is called Greed.”
In our life we let go of many good things because of our greed of having even better ones. This is human nature:we always want something better and better. But we let go of many good things which can give us similar satisfaction and make us happy.Learn to make your choice wisely.

When I was a boy of 12 in South Carolina,we lived near a forest, and every evening mockingbirds(知更鳥(niǎo)) would come to the trees and sing.I was so interested in watching birds.I planned to catch a bird and keep her in a cage so that I could hear her sing at any time.
I finally caught one.On the second day,the bird's mother flew to the cage with food in her mouth. The baby ate everything her mother brought her.I was glad to see this. The following morning when I went to see my mockingbird,I was surprised to find she was dead in the cage! How sad I was!
When Arthur Wayne,a famous ornithologist(鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)學(xué)家),visited my father,he heard my crying and told me,“If a mother mockingbird finds her young baby in a cage, she will bring poisonous(有毒的) food to the baby. She thinks that it is better for her child to die than to live in a cage.”

【題目】Twelve-year-old Leonardo was born in a poor family in Peru. He knew how to read but he had never seen a book in his life. So he asked the new priest (牧師) in his village to give him one. But there was no electricity. So Leonardo borrowed candles from the church and sat up all night reading it.
This made John Medcalf, the priest, really moved (感動(dòng)的). He also realized that people would love to read if given a chance. But he knew how difficult it was for Leonardo and those in his village to get books. And yet, no one can be taught to read and write without books. To make people in a poor area grow to love books, they have to be with them. So he thought the only way was to bring books to people.
But how could this be done? Mobile libraries or car libraries would be too expensive and difficult to continue in the hilly (多丘陵的) land of Peru. So what other methods could be used?
He got a new idea from the barefoot (赤腳) doctors of China. And that was how the barefoot librarians (圖書(shū)管理員) first appeared in the villages of northern Peru, almost thirty years ago.
At first, they were teachers of the village schools which these faraway libraries belonged to. But the teachers were not very interested in the job because it meant a lot of hard work. So, the elders in the village took on the job themselves.
