【題目】 Some people believe that greed(貪婪) and selfishness has become the main theme of modern society, and we should return to the old traditions of family and community in order to have a better life.

In this fast –paced(快節(jié)奏的) world, many values are experiencing great changes. While people traditionally caring, sharing and generosity the most important things in life and work, modern people seem to be more self-centered.

Modern people act selfishly to survive the highly competitive world. To survive, you have to fight with whatever ways you can think of. Obviously greed and selfishness go perfectly well with such ideas. In a company, workers do everything they can to get better pay and higher position, even if it means their workmates will lose a lot because of this. They are not born cold-blooded; it is just that people are pressured to act in a certain way because of outside influences.

To be honest, it is hard to say that modern society is built on greed and selfishness, both of which are not newly invented vocabulary. In ancient times people also did greedy and selfish things though such behaviors were more seriously punished then. But we can’t be blind to the fact that people in the past faced less pressure compared with the modern environment.

Are we happier to share with others and be generous to them? There is no fixed answer either. Some people take great pleasure helping and giving to others while others feel happy doing the opposite. But I personally think that people should not be too selfish. Caring for others can actually encourage the development of a win-win relationship.

Main facts

Supporting details

1 are changing.

In the past people put caring, sharing and generosity in the first 2. They would be punished seriously for greedy behaviors.

Nowadays, people seem to think more about themselves. They act selfishly even if they may cause heavy 3 to their workmates.

4 for the changes

Heated competition and great pressure on modern people may be responsible for the changes.

The writer’s ideas

People should be less selfish and a win-win relationship should be 5.

【題目】 A new Chinese coronavirus (冠狀病毒), a cousin of the SARS virus, has infected more than 40,000people since the outbreak (爆發(fā)) began in Huanan Seafood Market, Wuhan, China, in December. At first, we knew little about this virus. With more researches going on, we get to learn more about it.

Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. In rare cases, they are what scientists call zoonotic (人畜共患病), meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is believed that the novel coronavirus spreads from human contact with animals. Bats are widely believed to be carriers of the latest strain of the disease.

Chinese researchers said on Friday that the endangered pangolin (穿山甲) may be the intermediate host between bats and humans.

The viruses can make people sick, usually with a mild(輕度) to moderate(中度) upper respiratory tract illness(上呼吸道疾病), similar to a common cold, including a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days. For those with a weakened immune system, the elderly and the very young, there's a chance the virus could cause deadly diseases.

What's horrible about this virus is that once a human is infected, he/she becomes a carrier of the virus and spreads it to more people by coughing, sneezing or even handshaking. The virus can also be transmitted (傳播) by touching something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes. Doctors and nurses may also catch the disease when taking care of the patients, so they are required to wear strict protective clothes.

Unfortunately, there are no disease-specific treatments for the disease at this stage, which makes the outbreak a challenging one to control. Besides, since we live in an interconnected world, where the situation in one country can affect the whole world, the influences of the novel coronavirus are huge-damaging trade relations, affecting foreign visitors and weakening the entire country.

To fight against the disease, as individuals, we should strictly follow the requirements of the government to stay at home and help to prevent the spread of the disease. In terms of the government, a strong health care system can surely help decrease the risk of health attack and lessen the impact of the disease.

1How many people have been affected since the outbreak of the new Chinese coronavirus?

2Where does the novel coronavirus come from according to the researchers?

3What symptoms (癥狀) may people have when they are affected?

4Why are doctors and nurses required to wear strict protective clothes?

5What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
