What is a hurricane?
You may already know that hurricanes are storms that can cause devastating (毀滅性的) waves, wind, and rain. They happen during “Hurricane Season,” which is from June 1st until November 30th in the Atlantic Ocean and from May 15th until November 30th in the Pacific Ocean.

Types of Hurricanes
There are five types of hurricanes, which are based on wind speeds. The categories help people know how much damage a hurricane may cause because the greater the wind speed, the more dangerous the storm. For example, a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 155 miles per hour, which are strong enough to destroy the buildings along the shorelines completely.
Hurricane Dangers
When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a devastating flood. The centre of a hurricane is called the eye. While most of a hurricane has dangerously strong winds, the eye is actually a calm area in the storm. When the eye of a hurricane passes over land, people might think that it's over, but before long the wind and rain increase again as the second part of the hurricane moves through.
Hurricane Safety Tips
There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change direction, so if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane, be sure to remember the following safety tips.
Be sure you have a radio, batteries, fresh drinking water, and enough food.
Tell neighbours, friends, and family members your emergency plans. Tell them where you'll go if you need to leave your home.
If you live near the ocean, leave your home and travel to a safe place. You could stay with a friend or a family member, in a hotel/motel, or in an emergency shelter area.
Stay inside during the storm. You could be seriously injured if you go outside.

They happen during “Hurricane Season,” which is from June 1st until November 30th in the Atlantic Ocean and from May 15th until November 30th in the Pacific Ocean.

You may already know that hurricanes are storms that can cause devastating (毀滅性的) waves, wind, and rain.

There are five types of hurricanes, which are based on wind speeds. 這里考查短語be divided into被分成…。

For example, a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 155 miles per hour, which are strong enough to destroy the buildings along the shorelines completely.

When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a devastating flood可知,颶風(fēng)往往伴隨大雨發(fā)生,所以會導(dǎo)致洪水。

(7)根據(jù)短文第三段中he centre of a hurricane is called the eye.

There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change direction可知,我們無法阻止颶風(fēng)或者是改變它的方向。原文的no way就是不可能,這里使用的句型是It is +形容詞+to do sth.,因此這里應(yīng)填impossible。

(9)根據(jù)短文的最后一部分Hurricane Safety Tips中if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane, be sure to remember the following safety tips. 這里是句型remember to do sth.

Stay inside during the storm. You could be seriously injured if you go outside可知,在發(fā)生颶風(fēng)的時候,待在室內(nèi),否則會受傷。

What are fossils?
Fossils are the remains of plants or animals. For such remains to be considered fossils, scientists have decided they have to be over 10,000 years old. The word fossil comes from the Latin word “fossilis”, which means, “dig up”. Fossils can be divided into “body fossils” and “trace(痕跡) fossils”. Body fossils are the remains of a plant or animal's body. Trace fossils are the remains of the activity of an animal, such as footprints, egg shells, and nests.
How are fossils formed?
Some animals were quickly covered after their death by sediment(沉淀物) like earth, mud or sand. Over time, the parts of the animals that didn't rot (usually the harder parts like bones and teeth) were covered in the newly formed sediment. Then, a lot of chemical changes happened to the animals bodies. Water with minerals(礦物質(zhì)) went into the bone and took the place of the chemicals in the bone with rock-like minerals. In the end we get a heavy, rock-like copy of the original object - a fossil. There weren't any changes in size and shape when an object changed into a fossil, but the fossil of a bone doesn't have any bone in it! It is chemically more like a rock! According to scientists, fossils have been found on every continent(大陸) on Earth.
(1)Trace fossils can't be formed from the ______ of some kind of animals.
A.footprints
B.nests

A.scientists think that the fossils may have a history of 100 centuries.
B.people haven't found any fossil on the continent of Africa.
C.we can find some real bones in the fossils of a bone.
D.there are many kinds of sediment in the fossils.
