Our school looks nice and big. The playground is very big and our classrooms are clean and bright. We also have an art room, a music room, a biology room and a small hall.
The Open Day starts at 9 a.m. in the playground. Everyone watches the students play different sports. Next we go to the art room to enjoy all the students’ pictures at 10 a.m. At 11 o’clock we all go to the school hall for a short meeting, and then we have lunch. After lunch, we have a little rest for half an hour in the hall. At 2p.m.we have a look at all the students’ work in the biology classroom. Finally we go to the music room and listen to some students play music at 4p.m.

There are many things you can do to improve your memory. Among them are many kinds of useful ways as well as taking special care of your health.
It is important that you make yourself excited to make your memory more active. You can do this by doing some new activities and by changing your daily habits. Learning a new skill helps your brain(大腦) to develop. When trying to remember something, you should pay special attention to the most important things about it. Do not allow other thoughts to enter your mind because this will reduce your chances of making right memories.
An excellent way to help memory is to connect information with pictures. Try to see the pictures in your mind. Taking notes and keeping a diary will also be helpful.
Healthy food and plenty of vitamins are necessary for your memory to work well. Drinking a lot of water also helps keep your memory. You must allow your brain to have enough sleep and rest. When you are sleep, Your brain stores memory. Not enough sleep can cause problems with storing information. And being tired will also stop you from being able to think clearly and well.
In order to keep your mind on your work, you must be free from worry. Generally keeping fit and normal health checks are both important as well--- not just for improving your memory.

What makes a successful speech? First, you should have a good speech script (稿子) so that your ideas and language can attract people's attention. And some skills are necessary, too.
Here are some suggestions on giving great speeches:
◆Beat nerves
Try to get relaxed when making a speech. Practice your opening sentence three or more times. This will help make a sure start and a successful speech. When you stand on the stage, think of the audience as your family members and friends.
◆Keep it natural
Natural body languages will help your speech: smile, stand straight and look at the audience. Do not drop your head or play with a pen. Also, dressing yourself nicely will help the audience feel respected.
◆Pace and pause (節(jié)奏和停頓)
Pace and pause add color to your speech. Speak fast enough to keep people excited and slowly enough for people to fully understand you. After an important point, pause for a moment. It'll change the atmosphere (氣氛)in the audience.

Minoru Yamasaki was a well-known American architect (建筑師). He was born in 1912 in Seattle, Washington. Minoru went to college to study architecture. Every summer he worked in a fish factory to help pay for college. He slept in a room with 100 other men.
Yamasaki sometimes dreamed about his work. Once he woke up at three o’clock in the morning. He remembered a building that was in his dream. He got up and started to draw.
Yamasaki was different from other architects. His buildings give people a feeling of peace and happiness. Many of his designs have pools of water, flowers, and windows on the roof to let in light. He wanted to give them a place away from the busy ways of modern life.
Yamasaki worked for several companies. But his success began when he started his own company. In 1956, he won the Architect’s First Honor Award for his design of an airport in St. Louis, Missouri. He won two more awards over the next five years. In 1962, he designed the World Trade Center in New York. In 1993, a bomb exploded (炸彈爆炸) in it. But the buildings did not fall down because they had a good design.
Yamasaki had strong opinions about his buildings. They had to be built his way. He refused to change the design of his buildings, even if he lost a job.
Minoru Yamasaki died on Jun,2 1986. He designed more than 300 buildings. People will enjoy the design and beauty of his buildings for a very long time.

任務(wù)閱讀 (10分)閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容填寫表格 (每空限填一詞)。
How do you feel when you have to make a speech(演講) in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you’re around other people. Experts (專家) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the centre of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
It’s OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It’s just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill (賬單). Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn’t a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practise your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There’s nothing to be afraid of.
