【題目】
Dear Mike,
My deskmate lately told me that there are a lot of people in my class who have hated me for a long time. I thought about how I've behaved in the past, but I don't think I did anything wrong. I feel lonely and sad now. What should I do?
Julia,
Dear Julia,
First, you should keep in mind that not everyone is going to like you all the time. Some people might even hate you for no reason at all. I know that sounds unfair, but that's just how some people are.
I will say this for you, it is not good to hear that your classmates supposedly(據(jù)說)dislike you. Why did I say“supposedly"? It's possible that your deskmate is lying to you. He or she might be the one who hates you. Your deskmate might be trying to trick you and make you feel bad.
On the other hand, it is also possible that you did something in the past that you don't quite remember—something that made your classmates dislike you. Maybe you can have a chat with your teacher and ask him or her if you misbehaved or hurt someone in the past. However, I think it's more likely that your deskmate isn't being honest with you.

【題目】 Have you ever wondered if there are any easy and quick ways to lose weight? An experiment by the University of Konstanz, in Germany, found that wearing a blindfold (眼罩) while eating could be a quick way to solve the problem. The simple trick works because it stops people eating for pleasure. It also triggers (觸發(fā)) a part of the brain which is worriedwhether unseen food has gone bad without visual clues.
In the experiment, 50 people were blindfolded and 40 were allowed to see their food. All were told not to eat within two hours of the experiment. They were then given three 95g bowls of chocolate ice cream and invited to eat for 15 minutes. Their bowls were taken away and the remaining ice cream was weighed, while the volunteers were quizzed on how much they thought they had eaten. On average the group who could see ate 116g while the blindfolded groups ate 105g. However, the blindfolded group believed they had eaten 197g while compared with 159g for the non-blind volunteers.
According to the experiment, people who were blindfolded got 9 percent fewer calories before they felt full, compared to those who could see. They greatly overestimated (高估) howmuch they had eaten because they could not see how much was left on the plate. Blindfolded volunteers thought they had eaten 88 percent more than they actually had. Scientists believe that not seeing food on the table also allows the body to know when it is full in real time.
They were also asked how pleasant the ice-cream tasted. The blindfolded group had a poorer opinion of the ice-cream than those who could see. The experienced pleasure of eating was much lower in the blindfolded group. Not seeing the food might have decreased theappetite(食欲). Sight plays an important role in the overall eating experience.
If you are still on the way, maybe it is a good choice for you.
