Frogs are animals that can live both in water and on land. There are more than 5,000 kinds of frogs on the earth. The earliest known frogs lived about 190 million years ago and the frogs today still look the same. Here are some fun things that you might not know about frogs. Enjoy!
The Biggest and the Smallest Frogs
Some frogs can be very big. The biggest kind of frog is the Goliath Frog in West Africa. Its body can be nearly 30cm long, about the size of a large cat. The Gold Frog and the Poison Frog are the smallest frogs in the world. They are less than 1cm long. Though the Poison Frog is very small, it is not weak at all. It is dangerous. Any animal that eats it will die very soon.
The Best Jumpers
Frogs are very good at jumping. They developed jumping legs so that they would not be eaten by other large animals. Using their big strong legs, more frogs can jump over 20 times their own length. The Australian Rocket Frog can even jump over 2m, which is 50 times its body length (5.5 cm). That might be the reason why frogs are called the best jumpers on the earth.
The Cryogenic Animal
Some frogs like the Common Wood Frog have a special ability to live in very cold places. When the temperature goes down, they become ice frogs. 2/3of their body water freezes. Their hearts stop, and their breathing stops too. You may think they are dead, but in fact they are not. Maybe we humans can learn the way that the frogs do for medical purpose

Just as in face-to-face communication, there are some basic rules of behavior(行為) that should be followed on the Internet. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated. Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.
For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “ Would I say that to the person’s face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. If someone in the chat room is rude to you, you needn’t to fire back. You should either ignore(不理睬) the person, or use your chat software to block their messages. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.
Everyone was new to the network once. Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, be kind about it. If you do decide to tell someone about the mistake, point it out politely. At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended(冒犯). You’d better not ask others questions about their age, sex and families. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, or don’t ask such questions

Eating in space is different from eating on the earth. The food that astronauts carry with them does not look like the food you eat.
Some food is carried in closed bags. It is cooked and frozen before the astronauts get it. All the water is removed from the food. In the spaceship, the astronaut puts the water back. He “shoots” hot or cold water into the food bag with a special gun. He eats the food through a small hole in the bag.
Other foods come in bite sizes. The astronaut puts a whole piece in his mouth at once. There can be no crumbs. Crumbs would float around the spaceship and get in the way. Meat and cakes often come in bite-size pieces.
Astronauts cannot drink water from open cups. The water would float in drops in the spaceship. The water is put in the special gun. The astronaut shoots the water into his mouth

  1. 1.

Some food carried in the closed bags by astronauts is ______.

    1. A.
      cooked and frozen

    2. B.
the water would spill all over their foods
    3. C.
crumbs would float in the cups
  3. 3.

    1. A.
astronauts cannot eat or drink in a spaceship until they come back to the earth
    2. B.
eating and drinking in the spaceship is a special problem

An old farmer lived with his little grandson. Every day the farmer got up early to read books.
One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa! I want to read books just like you, but I don’t understand them. What are the advantages of reading?” The grandfather said, “Take this little basket to the river and bring me back a basket of water.” The boy did so, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, “ You’ll have to walk faster next time.”
This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. The boy said, “ See Grandpa, it’s useless!”
“So you think it is useless?” the old man said. “ Look at the basket.”
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time he realized that the basket was different. It was clean, inside and out.

Who wants to carry a bulky bag to school? No children. Nobody wants one shoulder to be lower than the other, and paining(疼痛)too. In India, most of us would look at the reduction(減少)of textbooks as a way out. But in a country like America, there are always more choices. A company called goReader has created a "school bag" which is the size of a laptop computer(筆記本電腦), weighing about 2.5 kg. The goReader has a color screen and can "hold" all the textbooks that a student may need, says a report in ’The Asian Age’ newspaper.
The company plans to work closely with the publishers(出版商) of textbooks so that these books can be supplied on the Internet. All the students will have to do is to download(下載) their textbooks. Making notes and marking important parts of a lesson can be done just as lots of students have done on their textbooks before.
At present, the plan is being tested out in a university. Richard Katzmann, the owner of the company is having his creation tested at Chicago’s DePaul University, where he studied. Does that mean it is goodbye to the new paper, and the smell of the black ink?

Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the local people of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the local people become unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy(經(jīng)濟(jì)). It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance(推進(jìn)) the well-being (health and happiness) of local people.
Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer.
On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a lot of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.
Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost

  1. 1.

What is probably the reason if local people dislike tourists?

    1. A.
Tourists come to enjoy the customs and beauty
    2. B.
      Local people lose jobs
    3. C.
A lot of hotels are built
    4. D.

    2. B.
      Help the country’s economy
    3. C.
      Build fewer hotels
    4. D.

The keys to reaching or staying at a healthy weight are regular exercise and good eating habits. Teens should get 60 minutes or more of physical activity a day. Note the word “activity”. As long as you’re getting your body moving, it doesn’t have to mean doing difficult exercise or going to the sports hall every day. All that matters is that each week you get the right balance of activity, including aerobics (有氧運(yùn)動(dòng)), strength building, and flexibility (柔韌) exercise. Make exercise a habit by arranging some time every day.
On days when you have soccer practice or an aerobics class, you may have no trouble exercising for an hour or more. But most of us are busy, and 60 minutes a day for exercise seems like a lot of time. The good news is that it’s OK to divide it into shorter exercise breaks throughout the day.
Just as you might have a healthy snack to stop yourself from getting hungry, exercise snacks can keep energy levels high. So get up 15 minutes early and do some stretching (伸展) activity. Walk fast or run slowly for 15 minutes after lunch. Do the same thing after school — or walk or bike home. Add to that taking the stairs, PE class, and walking between classes during the day, and you’ve probably reached your 60 minutes.
Here are five simple ways to make an exercise lifestyle change:

  1. 1.

The writer thinks many people probably misunderstand the word“activity” to be “_______”

    1. A.
      physical activity
    2. B.
      body movement
    3. C.
      sports hall exercise
    4. D.
      outdoor exercise
  2. 2.

When exercising, the most important fact is ______.

    1. A.
      the time spent on exercise
    2. B.
      the intensity of activity
    3. C.
      the difficulty of exercise
    4. D.
      the right balance of activity
  3. 3.

The author advises dividing activity into shorter exercise breaks because ______.

    1. A.
exercising for a long time is bad for people’s health
    2. B.
it has the same effect as soccer practice
    3. C.
people usually haven’t much time to exercise
    4. D.
no one can spare lots of time to exercise
  4. 4.
