Computer technology (技術(shù)) has become an important part of people's life. This technology has its
own special words. One well-known computer word is Google. It is the name of a popular "search engine
(引擎)" for the Internet.
People use the search engine to find information about almost any subject on the Internet. The people
who started the company named it Google because in math Google is a very large number-one hundred
zeros follow the number one. When you "Google" a subject, you can get a lot of information about it.
If you Google someone, you might find that person's name on a blog. A blog (博客) is short for a Web
log. It is a personal Web page. Some people write blogs to express their opinions and ideas over the Internet.
Some use them to share their lives with faraway friends or family. Others write blogs to help them deal with
sickness, money problems or to choose movies to see or books to read. Some people add information to their
blogs every day. People who have blogs are called bloggers.

Many young people can use a computer, but few of them know how to look after it. Remember the
following tips when you use a computer.
Keep your computer in a cool, dry room. Too much or too little heat is bad for computers. Damp
(潮濕) is also bad for them. Most computers work best at a temperature of 5-10 degrees centigrade
(攝氏度).
Do not let people smoke cigarettes near your computer. Smoke of all kinds is very bad for many parts
of the computer and can cause many problems.
Do not eat or drink when you are near your computer. Pieces of food or drops of water on the keyboard
can also cause many problems.
Make sure that the keyboard and the screen are the correct height for you. If they are not correct, you
will get backache.
Make sure the screen is the correct distance from your eyes. If you wear glasses, make sure these
glasses are correct for using with the computer. Some people use a different pair of glasses when they
use a computer.
Keep your screen clean and do not have it too bright. A dirty screen can hurt your eyes. A very bright
screen can also be bad for your eyes. If you can afford one, buy a computer screen. It will be better for
you than using the screen of a TV set.
Never use any software (軟件) that you don't know whether they are clean or not. You must be careful
because some software can bring viruses (病毒) into the computer. If your computer has viruses, it can't
work or even breaks down.
(     )1. According to this passage, most young people can control computers well while paying little
attention to the keeping of them.
(     )2. Putting the keyboard and the screen too high means you don't have to look at your manuscript
            (手稿) while typing.
(     )3. Some people use a different pair of glasses when they use a computer because they want to
            protect their eyes.
(     )4. It's better to use a TV set screen instead of a computer one because a TV set is usually larger
            than a computer one.
(     )5. "Clean software" means the software without any viruses.

Now satellites are helping to forecast (預(yù)報(bào)) the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any
part of the world. The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere (大氣), because this is where the weather
forms (形成). They send these pictures to the weather stations. So meteorologists (氣象學(xué)家) can see the
weather of any part of the world. From the pictures, the scientists can often say how the weather will change.
Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive
new pictures, the meteorologists compare (比較) them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds
have changed during the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too.
In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.
So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the scientists
could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for three or five days.
Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead (提前).

Very few people enjoy exams. I don't, either. And although I tell myself not to worry about them, I always
do! So I am not surprised that my students worry about them, too, even though they usually don't need to.
Because they are afraid of failing. However, since it is hard not to worry at all, we all must try not to worry
too much. Why? Because worrying makes exams worse! How to do this?
     1. Ask the teacher about how to revise and about exam skills- how to work when you are in the exam.
     2. Good students don't wait until the week before an exam. They study all through the year. It is not
possible to learn everything at the last minute. So don't leave it till then!

you are studying, then, when it is over, you'll be able to say, "What a good exam that was!"

Work at the time when you know you will work at your best.

round and round" - thinking too much. Do something else, maybe walk or get exercise. Choose something
that will relax you, and make you think of other things.
