Most of us get our earliest life lessons from fairy tales, like “True love can overcome (戰(zhàn)勝) anything” and “Even a frog can turn into a prince”. However, when we grow up, we start to learn new things about life, especially that love doesn’t always win, and that a frog is just a frog. Even so, our love for fairy tales never dies. Just look at cartoons like The Lion King and Frozen which have millions of fans young and old.

“Fairy tales are always there because they are the stories of our lives in the purest form.” wrote US writer Laura Packer. “They are stories of love and loss, happiness and sadness, riches and dreams.”

Fairy tales are all about the real world. But if children only see just one side of life, adults usually see the other. For example, in the 2014 film Maleficent, we’re told the tale of Sleeping Beauty from the views of the evil queen. Unlike the children’s version (版本) of the story, we see that the queen wasn’t an evil at birth. Instead, she experiences great lossers, leading to her “evil” side. And in US writer James Garner’s bedtime story books, he tells the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood, but with a modern touch: When the wolf tells Red Riding Hood that it isn’t safe for a little girl to walk through the woods alone, she calls the wolf sexist (性別歧視者), which connects with today’s women’s rights movement.

It looks like fairy tales aren’t just stories our parents read us at bedtime. They may usually start with “Once upon a time…”, but as we grow older, we learn that every story doesn’t always need a “Happily ever after” to be a good one.

Have you ever regretted(后悔) what you did in the past? Anyone around you will have no difficulty in telling his regrets. As we get older, we look back and wish that we had made better choices. What can we do to avoid future regrets?

Make better plans

If you begin to do something, you need to make a plan before doing it. The earlier, the better. You will know what comes first and what comes last. You’ll also know what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. If changes happen, you can have more time to deal with them.

Live a more active life

You can go around more often. More outdoor activities can keep you relaxed. You also need to be kind. “Thank you” can bring a smile to someone’s face. Learn to say “sorry” and don’t be angry with others.

Find the right friend

A friend may make your life and he or she can break your life as well. So you need to think twice when you choose a friend. Good friends will always better your ideas.

When you have problems, ask others for help. That little help may get you good results.

Never fear failure

Everybody fails. Even the greatest person failed. We should not fear failure, because failure is not the end of the road. We must take failure as a chance to learn and improve ourselves.

Life is good. We don’t have to live in our past, but we do hope that we can plan better, live better, and work better when we have the chance to do so.

【題目】 任務(wù)型閱讀。閱讀短文,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容,完成下列任務(wù)。

Do you often put off doing something that you should be doing? It’s a bad habit called procrastination(拖延癥).

The 2-Minute Rule is a method of ________ with the problem and the goal is to make it easier for you to get started on the things you should be doing. It includes two parts. Part 1 comes from David Allen’s book, “Getting Things Done”. It’s surprising how many things we put off that we could get done in two minutes or less, for example, taking out the litter, cleaning up your desk and sending an e-mail. If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, then follow the rule and do it right now.

Can all of your goals be achieved in less than two minutes? Of course not. ________, every goal can be started in 2 minutes or less. And that’s the purpose behind the rule’s second part. Once you start doing something, it’s easier to continue doing it. The most important part of any new habit is getting started--not just the first time, but each time. I love the 2-Minute Rule because it accepts the idea that all good things happen once you get started.

Want to become a better writer? Just write one sentence(2-Minute Rule), and you’ll probably find yourself writing for an hour.

Want to make reading a habit? Just read the first page of a new book(2-Minute Rule), and before you know it, you’ve read the first ten pages.

The Old Man and the Sea is a short novel written by the American author Ernest Hemingway in 1951 in Cuba. It tells the story of a fight between an aging fisherman and a giant marlin (槍魚(yú)).The novel opens with the fisherman, Santiago, who has gone 84 days without catching a fish. He is so unlucky that his young apprentice (徒弟), Manolin, hasn't been allowed by his parents to sail with the old man.On the 85th day, Santiago sets out by himself, far onto the Gulf Stream. He sets his lines and by noon, a big marlin takes his bait (魚(yú)餌). After threedays' struggle with the fish, Santiago manages to tie the marlin to the side of his boat. While Santiago sails back to the shore, sharks are attracted to the blood left by the marlin in the water. Though Santiago makes a great effort, they have almost eaten up the marlin. Santiago knows that he is defeated (打敗) and tells the sharks of how they have killed his dreams. Once home, he is so tired that he goes straight to bed and falls into a deep sleep.Manolin feels much worried. The next day he brings him newspapers and coffee. When the old man wakes, they promise to fish together once again. The old man doesn't feel well and also coughs up blood a few times towards the end of the story.Readers think that the story is about man's fight against the natural world. In the story, Santiago and the marlin show similar qualities of pride, honour, and bravery, and both have to obey the same natural law—they must kill or be killed.
