Being an astronaut sounds cool, doesn't it? In space, they can do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity (重力).
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can't do because of their weightless environment, and that's very sad. What's worse, they can't even let their sadness show – because it's impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still have tears. But crying is much more difficult in space. Without gravity, tears don't flow downward out of the eyes like they do on the earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go – they just stick to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. "Tears," he said, "don't fall off your eyes. They just stay there." Besides making your vision (視力) unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on the earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that's not the same in space. The space environment dries out astronauts' eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. "My right eye is painful like crazy." Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn't work in space astronauts need some extra help to get rid of the tears.
Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet (頭盔) to wipe the tears away. Another choice is to just wait -- "When the tears get big enough, they simply break free of the eye and float around, astronaut Ron Parise said.
There are lots of small things - things like crying that we are so used to on the earth. We usually take them for granted (認(rèn)為理所當(dāng)然), until they become a problem in a completely different environment, like space. There, astronauts can't talk to each other directly. They can't eat or drink in normal ways; They can't even burp (打嗝) because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomachs. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up (嘔吐) everything in their stomachs, according to the UK National Space Center.
Thus perhaps it's only space explorers who can honestly say: "Gravity, you're the best."

根據(jù)Of course, astronauts can still have tears. But crying is much more difficult in space. Without gravity, tears don't flow downward out of the eyes like they do on the earth“當(dāng)然,宇航員能流眼淚。但是在太空上流眼淚要困難地多,沒有重力,眼淚不會(huì)像在地球上一樣從眼里流出來”可知,在太空上哭泣比在地球上困難,故填Yes, it is。
【2】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)Of course, astronauts can' still have tears. But crying is much more difficult in space. Without gravity, tears don't flow downward out of the eyes like they do on the earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go – they just stick to your eyes“當(dāng)然,宇航員能流眼淚。但是在太空上流眼淚要困難地多,沒有重力,眼淚不會(huì)像在地球上一樣從眼里流出來。這就意味著當(dāng)你在太空哭泣時(shí),你的眼淚無處可去,只能粘在眼睛上”可知,他們不會(huì)流到眼睛的下面,故填They don't flow downward-out of the eyes。
根據(jù)In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks“在2011年,宇航員安德魯菲斯特爾在一次太空行走中經(jīng)歷了這一過程”以及The space environment dries out astronauts' eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. "My right eye is painful like crazy." Feustel told his teammate during the walk“太空環(huán)境會(huì)使宇航員的眼睛變干,當(dāng)眼淚突然打濕眼睛時(shí),會(huì)引起疼痛而不是舒適!拔业挠已厶鄣靡!Feustel在散步時(shí)告訴他的隊(duì)友”可知,安德魯菲斯特爾經(jīng)歷過在太空中眼淚會(huì)造成痛苦而不是舒適,故填Andrew Feustel。
【4】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet (頭盔) to wipe the tears away. Another choice is to just wait -- "When the tears get big enough, they simply break free of the eye and float around, astronaut Ron Parise said“弗斯特爾選擇在頭盔上擦眼淚。宇航員羅恩·帕里斯說:“另一種選擇是等待。當(dāng)眼淚變得足夠大時(shí),它們就會(huì)沖破眼睛,四處漂浮”可知,把眼睛擦在頭盔上擦干眼淚,或者等到眼淚流得足夠大。故填By rubbing the eyes against the helmet to wipe-the tears away or by waiting until the tears get big enough。
根據(jù)They can't even burp (打嗝) because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomachs“他們不能打嗝,因?yàn)闆]有重力將食物壓在胃里”可知,故填Because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomachs。
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can't do because of their weightless environment, and that's very sad“然而,也有很多事情宇航員不能做,因?yàn)樗麄兊氖е丨h(huán)境,這是非?杀摹币约叭目芍麄儾荒茈S意擦掉眼淚,而且不能打嗝可知,重力是最好的東西。所以同意他的說法,因?yàn)樵谑е氐那闆r下,一切都很悲傷,故填Yes. 【題目】 Americans were shocked to discover that the national bird was in danger of disappearing from the skies forever. Studies in 1970 showed only about 1,000, or fewer, bald eagles(禿鷹) in the country.
The major cause of the problem was people. The spread of civilization(文明) destroyed many of the eagles' feeding and nesting areas. And the eagles were being affected by D-D-T and other insect poisons. The poisons were in the animals the eagles ate. They reduced the eagles' ability(能力) to use calcium(鈣). This made the outside of the eagles' eggs very thin. Often, the eggs broke before baby birds were developed.
In 1972, the U. S. government banned(禁止) D-D-T. People also became interested in protecting places where eagles live. And stronger efforts were made to carry out laws protecting the birds. Scientists began a program that placed baby bald eagles which were born under human care, into nests of wild bald eagles. Often, the wild birds accepted the babies.
These efforts appear to have been successful in saving the American bald eagles. Today the number of the bald eagles has increased to more than 11, 000.
【1】The main reason of the problem that the bald eagles were in danger is ______.
A. calcium(鈣)B. peopleC. the programD. the wild animals
【2】The wild bald eagles seemed ______.
A. willing to raise the baby eagles hatched(孵出)by man
B. shocked they were in danger of disappearing
C. satisfied with D-D-T and other insect poisons.
D. unwilling to help the scientists to carry out the program
【3】If no measures had been taken, the bald eagles would ______.
A. have died out in the country
B. have nested(筑巢) in the mountains
C. have broken all their eggs
D. have become wild birds
【4】Today Americans are no longer ______ the bald eagle.
A. interested in B. disappointed in C. proud of D. anxious about
