【題目】What would you say when we told you that you could learn to speak a new language in only 7 days? Pretty unbelievable, right? But how could it be? To find out, we spoke to Davidone of our brave Babbel learnersto see how the Babbel app successfully got him speaking Norwegian(挪威語) in just one week.

How much time did you learn each day?

I didn’t need to give my whole life over to learning Norwegian. Each Babbel lesson takes only 15 minutes, and I set myself the achievable aim of finishing three Babbel lessons daily. This took 45 minutes each day.

How did the Babbel app help you learn so quickly?

The Babbel app has a course plan for beginners that taught me how to make sentences in Norwegian within the first few days. Then I was able to personalize my learning by choosing single-topic lessons on eating, drinking, music, culture, travelling and so on. This allowed me to quickly enlarge(擴大) my vocabulary!

This way of learning kept me highly active, and made sure I wasn’t bored to tears(眼淚) with grammar practice that we all remember from school!

“After 7 days I was able to introduce myself in Norwegian, talk about my hobbies and interests, and most importantly, communicating with a native(本國的) Norwegian speaker in a real conversation and I could even play a joke or two!”

Would you introduce this app to others?

Certainly! Babbel has 14 languages to choose from, so if you’re thinking about brushing up on your German for a business trip, or learning a bit of Portuguese(葡萄牙語) for next year’s summer vacation, you’ll be happy to hear that you only need an app, 7 days of learning to get you conversational.

1The Babbel app is used for people to _______.

A. speak with nativesB. learn foreign languages

C. do international businessD. plan a vacation abroad

2How did the Babbel app help David learn quickly?

A. It took him little time every day.

B. It provided him with 14 languages.

C. It gave him daily grammar practice.

D. It offered lessons according to his needs.

3The example of David is used in the passage to show that _______.

A. hard work matters a lotB. Babbel app sells well

C. Norwegian is easy to learnD. Babbel app really helps

【題目】 Have you had a headache during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? If so, then you know what pressure is. Pressure is what you feel when you are worried about something.

This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, sad, scared, or afraidall of which can give you a stomachache or headache.

However, there are different kinds of pressure. Some kinds of pressure are good and others are bad. Good pressure might happen when you’re called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of pressure can help you to get things better done. For example, you may do a better job on your test if the pressure pushes you to prepare better before the test.

On the other hand, bad pressure can happen if the pressure lasts too long. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting, if a family member is sick, if you’re having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day. That kind of pressure isn’t going to help you. And it can really make you sick.

The best way to fight pressure is to have a balanced life. Make sure you keep yourself in mind: Sleep, Exercise, Relaxation, and Food. If you get enough sleep and eat properly, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you’ll probably fight pressure.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷句子正(T)、誤(F)。

1In the writer’s opinion, pressure is what you feel when you are excited about something.

2All kinds of pressure are bad for our health.

3When good pressure happens, it can help you to get things better done.

4You can really feel sick if the pressure lasts long.

5If you want to fight pressure, you’d better have a balanced life.

【題目】Where is that noise coming from? Not sure? Try living with your eyes closed for a few years.

Blind people are better at locating sounds than people who can see, a new study says, without the benefits of vision the ears seem to work much better

Previous studies have shown that blind people are better than others at reaching out and touching the sources of sounds that are close by. Researchers from the University of Montreal wanted to see if blind people were also better at locating sounds that are far away.

Twenty-three blind people participated in the study. All had been sightless for at least 20 years. Fourteen of them had lost their vision before age 11. The rest went blind after age 16. The experiment also included 10 people who could see but were wearing blind-folds.

In one task, volunteers had to pick the direction of a sound coming from about 3 metres away. When the sound was in front of them or slightly off center in front, both groups performed equally well.

When sounds came from the side or the back, however, the blind group performed much better than the blindfolded group. The participants(參與者)who had been blind since childhood did slightly better than those who lost their sight later.

“Recognizing(認(rèn)識)the locations of distant sounds can be a matter of life-or-death for blind people,” say the researchers. Crossing the street, for instance, is much harder when you can’t see the cars coming.

Still, the researchers were surprised by how well the blind participants did, especially those who went blind after age 16. In another experiment, the scientists also found that parts of the brain that normally deal with visual(視覺的)information became active in locating sound in the people who were blind by age 11. These brain parts didn’t show sound-location activity in the other group of blind people or in the sighted people. The scientists now want to learn more about the working of brains of “l(fā)ate-onset” (遲發(fā)性的)blind people.

1The recent study shows blind people are better at telling ________________.

A. The sources of loud sounds.B. the locations of distant sounds

C. the direction of sharp soundsD. the distance of a sound in front of them

2If people were asked to tell the direction of a sound from the side, who would perform best?

A. Those who are blind.

B. Those who have gone blind since children.

C. Those who went blind at age 16.

D. Those who are blindfolded.

3Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. Whether to be able to locate the sounds can be of vital(生死攸關(guān)的) importance for the blind.

B. All the volunteers in the experiment are sightless.

C. All the participants did equally well when picking sounds from whatever direction.

D. The later people become blind, the better they can perform in telling the direction of sounds.

4What do we know about that parts of brain dealing with visual information are active in locating sounds?

A. This happens in almost all the testers.

B. This only happens in the people who were blind after age 16.

C. It remains nothing new to the scientists any more.

D. It remains a mystery why it is so.
