【題目】Answer the questions(根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題)

Mrs Burt was walking along a San Francisco street. Suddenly a man took her purse and ran. She was very angry. She had ten dollars, her bus pass, and the key to her house in her purse. Mrs Burt ran after the thief.

The thief ran one block, two blocks, three blocks. The thief was a young man, so he could run fast. Mrs Burt was not a young woman—she was 73 years old—but she could run fast, too. Mrs Burt stayed right behind the thief.

Mrs Burt was wearing two chopsticks in her hair. The chopsticks had sharp ends. Mrs Burt took the chopsticks out of her hair. "Maybe I can stab(刺)the thief with these chopsticks," she thought. "Then he will drop any purse."

The thief ran into an apartment building. Mrs Burt followed him. "Help! Stop him!" she shouted. "He has my purse!"

Two police officers were walking near the apartment building. They heard Mrs Burt and ran to help her. One police officer stayed with Mrs Burt. The other police officer chased the thief.

The police officer found the thief on the roof of the apartment building. The thief was looking in Mrs Burt's purse. When he saw the police officer, the thief dropped the purse and jumped off the building. The building was two storeys high.

A few minutes later the police officer caught the thief. He was hiding under a car. He couldn't run because he had broken his legs. The police took the thief to jail. The thief will stay in jail for a long time. But the thief was lucky. He was lucky that the police caught him. He was lucky that Mrs Burt didn't catch him!

【題目】閱讀下面的短文,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項補(bǔ)全短文。選項中有一項為多余選項。

A simple life means leaving out many of the things you do so that you can spend more time with people you love and do the things you love. However, getting to simplicity isn't always simple. It's often a journey of two steps forward and one backward.

Evaluate(評估)your time. 1 What things do you do from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep? Make a list, and evaluate whether they're necessary. If not, leave them out and focus on what's important.

Limit(限制)your communications. Our lives these days are filled with communications: email, cell phones, paper mail and more. 2 Instead, set a limit on your communications: only deal with emails at certain times of the day. Limit phone calls to certain times too. It is the same with other communications. Set a timetable and stick to it.

Try living without a car. OK, this isn't something I've done, but many others have. 3Walk, bike, or take public transportation. It reduces costs and gives you time to think. A car is also very complicated, needing not only car payments, but insurance, repairs, gas and more.

4 If you rid(去除)your home of useless things, you might find you don't need so much space. I'm not saying you should live on a boat, but if you can be comfortable in a smaller home, it will not only be less expensive, but easier to maintain(維護(hù)),and greatly simplify your life.

A.Have a place for everything.

B.How do you spend your day?

C.It's something I would do if I didn't have kids.

D.They can take up your whole day if you let them be.

E.Consider a smaller home.

【題目】 Du Fu (712-770), one of the greatest poets in China, is familiar to most of us. However, Du has remained largely unknown in the Western world.

The BBC’s one-hour documentary Du Fu, China’s Greatest Poet introduces the great poet to Western audiences (觀眾). As the first English-language documentary about Du, it compares him to Dante and Shakespeare, two of the greatest literature masters of the West.

In the film, British historian Michael Wood explores the poet’s life. He visits a number of places, such as the poet’s birthplace Gongyi, Henan province and the Du Fu Thatched Cottage (杜甫草堂) in Chengdu, Sichuan, where Du used to live. Along the way, he meets and talks to people who help to tell the fascinating stories of the poet. The film also includes interviews with scholars (學(xué)者) and recitals (朗誦) of Du’s works by British actor Sir Ian McKellen, who is known for performing Shakespeare’s works.

The documentary explains why Du’s works have been popular for centuries. “Chinese people really value the recording of history and Du Fu is better than anyone at reflecting (反映) history in his poetry. That’s because historical events are mirrored in his own life and spiritual (精神的) journey,” said Zeng Xiangbo, a professor at Renmin University.

Du lived under the rule of the Tang Emperor Xuanzong (713-756), a time of prosperity (繁榮). He was a civil servant(文職人員) in the Tang court (朝廷). But as the An Lushan Rebellion of 755 floored the empire, he escaped, took his family on the road as refugees (難民), and suffered starvation (饑餓) and poverty. Through ups and downs, the poet never stopped writing, pouring out his concern for his country and people, as well as celebrating the simple joys of life. Known as China’s “saint of poetry”, he wrote about 1,400 poems that are still with us today.

1How long does it take to watch the BBCs documentary Du Fu?

2Where was Du Fu born?

3Why is Du Fu better than anyone at reflecting history in his poetry according to Professor Zeng Xiangbo?

【題目】閱讀下面短文,從短文后的五個選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。每個選項只能用一次。

When throwing away rubbish, do you know which bin(垃圾箱) it should go in? Have you ever noticed the differently-colored bins on the street?

Some of you might not be able to answer this question.1Knowing how to sort(分類)waste can make it easier to save energy and protect the environment.

If you don’t sort your waste, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾填埋場)and be buried(埋)together.2 But some waste, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

3 For example, Shanghai announced that within three years, people should sort their waste into four groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry.

4 Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste. Harmful waste includes things like medicine and batteries.5

Now that you know this, perhaps you can do your part to protect the environment and encourage others to sort their waste.

A.“Wet” waste is also known as household waste.

B.However, it’s actually quite important to know how to sort your waste.

C.Finally, any waste that’s not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the “dry waste” bin.

D.The waste you throw away, such as batteries(電池), can pollute the earth and groundwater.

E.With this in mind, many cities in China have carried out waste-sorting activities in recent years.
