【題目】Do you dream of having a sister or brother?According to the recent CCTV news report,China has relaxed its one-child policy (政策) to two-child policy. The government has allowed families to have two children.
Tencent did a survey last week about the two-child policy. On the one hand,up to 53% of parents say they are willing to have a second child. “I am excited about hearing the news. To have two kids means the children can look after each other in the future. Not only can they have a partner to play with, but they can also learn to help one another. This helps them to develop a better personality. I think I won't miss the chance to own a second kid,” says Li Mei,a mother of a 5-year-old daughter from Shanghai.
On the other hand, about 40% of parents say they may not have a second child. One reason is that they are afraid that the child's everyday expenses (費(fèi)用) and education would be a big problem. They couldn't afford them. “I think the policy itself is pretty good, but I don't think it interests me. I won't consider a second child. Everything is very expensive at present, and I find it very difficult to raise another child,” says Han Dong from Chongqing, who has just had a boy.

【題目】To write a great news story, you have to make sure it is correct, relevant (相關(guān)的) and fresh.
For a start, all the information in a story must be correct. Not only the spelling and grammar, but also the facts.
Any mistakes that show up in a story can get a newspaper into big trouble.
For example, if a newspaper said that Yang Liwei was the first man to go into space, it would be wrong. He wasn’t the first. The newspaper would probably lose lots of readers because of that mistake.
A news story does not only have to be correct, but it must also be relevant to its readers. People are mostly interested in news that happens near to them. That’s why you care more about what happens at your school than at schools in America. It’s also why newspapers in Beijing don’t talk much about news in Shanghai or Hong Kong.
Make sure it’s fresh.
Finally, news must always be fresh. When you pick up your evening newspaper, you want to read about news that happened that day. You don’t want to read about news from last week!
So, now you know what makes a good news story. Have a look at our paper and see if it’s full of good news! You can try writing a news story for our paper like a real reporter.
【1】What will happen if there is a mistake in a newspaper?
A. The reporter will probably have a lot of trouble.
B. The newspaper would attract more readers.
C. Many readers won’t buy the newspaper any more.
D. The reporter won’t be able to write for the newspaper again.
【2】Why would it be wrong for a newspaper to say that Yang Liwei was the first man to go into space?
A. Because the information was not fresh.
B. Because the information was not correct.
C. Because the information was not relevant.
D. Because the information was not useful.
【3】People are mostly interested in news that happens near to them, so newspapers in Beijing talk much about news in???? .
A. Nanjing??? B. Shanghai
C. Beijing??? D. Hong Kong
【4】Where does the writer work most probably?
A. In a newspaper.??? B. In a shop.
C. In a library.??? D. In a bank.

【題目】The Art of the Elephants
If your cat walked across something you were painting and left footprints behind, would you consider your cat an artist? What if your bird held a colored pencil in its beak(喙) and painted on a piece of paper? Most people may think of animal art as a joke, but some people have been taking it very seriously.
Elephants were used for hundreds of years in Thailand’s logging industry(伐木業(yè)). They moved wood from forests in areas where there were no roads. At the beginning of this century, when the forests of Thailand began to quickly disappear, the government put a stop to logging. All of a sudden, many elephants in Thailand no longer had a way to make a living.
Some elephants were treated badly. Others had to try to live on their own and couldn’t find enough food to eat. There were once tens of thousands of elephants in Thailand. Today, there are less than five thousand. When two Russian American artists, Vitaly Komar and Alex Melamid, first heard about the troubled elephants in Thailand, they knew that something had to be done to forever change the way people treated Thai elephants. Then, they came up with an idea to help these elephants.
Komar and Melamid visited elephant camps in Thailand and began to show the elephant trainers how to teach the elephants to paint. At first, the trainers had to guide the elephants’ trunks. The elephants became more comfortable doing this with practice—and lots of sweet snacks—and finally started to paint on their own. The strange idea that Komar and Melamid had to save the elephants actually began to work. They even helped found several elephant art schools in Thailand and in other Asian countries. The elephants and their trainers go there to learn about painting and get supplies they need.
Today, people begin to buy elephant artworks from galleries(畫廊) all around the world. Some are even willing to pay more than $2,000 for the works of the elephant artists! Some people compare the cheerful, brightly-colored artworks to the works of some great abstract(抽象地) painters. Some people are just happy to buy these special and original(原創(chuàng)地) artworks. Others think they are helping the troubled elephants in this way. The next time you see a piece of colorful abstract art, find out who the artist is. You just may be surprised at what you learn!
