3Nobody is allowed to make any noise in the laboratory.

4The children had fun playing basketball yesterday morning.

We couldn't find anything strange in the room.

2go away離開,say goodbye to sb. Paul went away without saying goodbye to us just now.

3規(guī)章制度用一般現(xiàn)在時態(tài)來表達,be allowed to do sth.被允許做某事,不定代詞nobody作主語,視作第三人稱單數(shù),be動詞用is, make noise制造噪音。 Nobody is allowed to make any noise in the laboratory.

4have fun doing sth. The children had fun playing basketball yesterday morning.

5let sb. do sth.

No school, no homework, travel on the sea, have adventures all the time. Sounds interesting? That may be a pirate’s (海盜) life in movies. But what do pirates do in real life?

Pirates are robbers (強盜) on the water. As long as there has been trade on the sea, there have been pirates.

Vikings (維京人) were early pirates in Northern Europe from the 8th to the 11th century. They were strong and good at fighting. From 1650 to 1720, there were many famous and scary pirates such as Blackbeard (his real name was Edward Teach) and Jack Rackham

In Eastern Asia, Japanese pirates were common in the 13th and 14th centuries. Pirates today, such as the Somali pirates, have a bad reputation (名聲). They rob ships and catch people to ask for more money.

In the story of Peter Pan, Captain Hook is scary but acts like a gentleman. He is famous for wearing a hook (鉤子) and a big hat with a feather (羽毛). There is one language that people use in every country in the world. People who use it are young and old, short and tall, thin and fat. It’s almost everybody’s second language. It’s easy to understand, but you can’t hear it. It’s sign language.

Babies who can’t talk can point at things. They’re using sign language. Sign language can be useful in places that are very noisy and in places that are very quiet. You can talk to the people who are behind windows. And when you go swimming with your friends, you can have a“talk”under water!

Many years ago, a Frenchman wanted to help deaf people. He opened the first school for deaf people in Paris in 1760. And they learned sign language there. Teachers and doctors who wanted to help deaf people also went to Paris and had lessons. Then they taught sign language to their students. Soon there were schools for deaf people in other countries.

Today, in the United States, there are special TV news programs for deaf people. The news broadcaster tells the news in sign language and the words appear on TV, too.

My name’s Evelyn. This February was a special one for me and my family.

On February 17, 2004, doctors took away my heart and put in a new one. I was only three years old at the time. Before I was born, doctors were able to see that I had a heart defect — my heart couldn’t do its job. I had my first heart surgery (外科手術(shù)) when I was three days old. More surgeries followed, and soon the doctors found they couldn’t fix my heart. They had to get me a new one. So I got another child’s heart. My surgery went well, and now here I am. Even ten years later, I’m doing great.

Well, it’s not always easy. I see doctors regularly (定期地). Medicine is part of my everyday life. I had to have a surgery in 2008, and I may need more surgeries in the future. No one knows what will happen, and I don’t worry about it.

I don’t feel different from other people, mostly. I like violin, painting and ball games, and I’m in middle school. I have amazing friends. A few of them and I have been friends since I was a little child. I enjoy going to a special camp for kids with heart defects. The year I turned 11, I decided to get a swimsuit to wear at the camp. The camp helped me to be OK with showing my scars (傷疤).

I celebrate my birthday and also my Heart Day, every February 17. It’s a chance to be thankful for my new heart and the family that gave it to me. I have never met the family, but I’d want them to know how thankful I am for my life.
