Artificial Intelligence(AI,人工智能)can help us make phone calls. It can guide us to where we want to go. It can play games. And now, AI can do even more things.

Researchers from Microsoft have created the first machine translation system that can translate news articles from Chinese to English.

The researchers tested the system by asking it to translate hundreds of sentences taken from news stories. Then, language experts compared the results to the translation that were done by humans. The experts said that the system's translations were as good as the human translations.

Experts used several methods to improve the system's translation abilities. “Much of our research is really learned from how we humans do things,” lead researcher Liu Tieyan said.

One method is called dual learning(對偶學習). In this method, the system translates every sentence from Chinese to English, as well as translates the sentences back from English into Chinese. This way, the system can improve itself and learn from its own mistakes. This is similar to what humans do to make sure their translations are exact.

Another method makes use of deliberation networks(推敲網(wǎng)絡(luò))The researchers taught the system to repeat the process of translating the same sentence over and over. Graduallythe system can improve the quality(質(zhì)量) of its translations. This is similar to how people correct their own writing by going through it again and again.

1Microsoft created a system that can ________.

A. make phone callsB. give people directions

C. play games with peopleD. translate news articles

2What did the experts say about the system's translations?

A. They were not exact.

B. They were as good as human translations.

C. They were better than human translations.

D. It's hard to tell whether the translations were correct.

3Dual learning trains the system to translate ________.

A. more quicklyB. different sentences

C. more exactlyD. the same sentence repeatedly

4The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to ________.

A. dual learningB. the process

C. the systemD. people's own writing

5The passage wants to tell us ________.

A. what artificial intelligence can do for us

B. how sentences are translated from Chinese to English

C. how the machine translation system was developed

D. why Microsoft created a machine translation system

【題目】閱讀表達

When 19-year-old Sophia Giorgi said she was thinking of volunteering to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation (基金會), nobody understood what she was talking about. But Sophia knew just how important Make-A-Wish could be because this special organization (組織) had helped to make a dream come true for one of her best friends. We were interested in finding out more, so we went along to meet Sophia and listen to what she had to say.

Sophia told us that Make-A-Wish is a worldwide organization that started in the United States in 1980. “It’s a charity(慈善機構(gòu)) that helps children who have got very serious illnesses. Make-A-Wish help children feel happy even though they are sick, by making their wishes and dreams come true,” Sophia explained.

We asked Sophia how Make-A-Wish had first started. She said it had all begun with a very sick young boy called Chris, who had been dreaming for a long time of becoming a policeman. Sophia said lots of people had wanted to find a way to make Chris’s dream come true --so, with everybody’s help, Chris, only seven years old at the time, had been a “policeman” for a day. “When people saw how happy Chris was when his dream came true, they decided to try and help other sick children too, and that was the beginning of Make-A-Wish,” explained Sophia.

Sophia also told us the Foundation tries to give children and their families a special, happy time. A Make-A-Wish volunteer visits the families and asks the children what they would wish for if they could have anything in the world. Sophia said the volunteers were important because they were the ones who helped to make the wishes come true. They do this either by providing things that are necessary, or by raising money or helping out in whatever way they can.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答下列問題。

1Did Sophia know how important Make-A-Wish could be?

2How does Make -A -Wish help children feel happy?

3What was the name of the first child Make-A-Wish helped?

4Why were the volunteers important according to Sophia?

5What is the passage mainly about?

【題目】閱讀下面短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題。

Students generally find it difficult to prepare for a speaking test because they have nobody to practise ___(A)___ or correct their mistakes. But that doesn't mean you can’t test yourself.

Whether you're taking an end-of-course test or an official (官方的) exam like PET or IELTS, there's one great tool you can use: your mobile phone. Nearly every smartphone these days has an inbuilt recording feature (內(nèi)置錄音功能) which you can use to test your speaking skills. You can record yourself speaking, play the recording back, and correct your own mistakes.

I practised this way in Italian. I chose some speaking questions from PET and did the exercise three times. The first time, I made a few grammar mistakes and didn't speak for long enough. The second time was a bit better, and the third time was nearly perfect.

All in all, I made a real improvement with my grammar, pronunciation and how long I spoke. Also, recording myself put me under the pressure (壓力) I would experience during an important speaking test.

Many students found this method ___(B)___. Nelia, from Brazil, said that she could hear her mistakes when she listened to her voice. She was mainly using the wrong verb tense (時態(tài)) and using prepositions(介詞) incorrectly. When she tried the exercise again, she got its right! Donghyeon, from South Korea, said that the exercise helped him to improve his English skills in general.

1How to test your speaking skills with a smartphone?(根據(jù)原文回答)
