What does it take to graduate (畢業(yè)) from a university? Many may say all you have to do is to take classes and pass the exams. Well, it is not enough if you're a student at Tsinghua University.
Starting this September, students at the university will have to take swimming courses, If they fail a swimming test at the beginning of their university course, they won't receive their degree (學(xué)位) until they can pass the test successfully. But students with certain physical or mental (心理的) illness are not included. Why does the university connect swimming ability with degrees? Liu Bo, head of the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, explained, "As a necessary living skill, swimming is helpful in improving students' endurance (耐力). And students don't get hurt easily when doing the water sport." Considering the ability to swim as a must for students is not something new to this university-it was also necessary in the early 20th century. It was later dropped because of a rising number of students. Another reason is that there were not enough swimming pools. Besides Tsinghua University, Peking University and Xiamen University, have also listed swimming as a compulsory course for students.
However, the rule made by Tsinghua University has caused a heated discussion. Some welcomed the new rule, saying it's a necessary skill that can save lives in unexpected and dangerous situations as well as a way to stay healthy. However, some said it has nothing to do with getting a degree. It's not reasonable to ask people to be able to swim for them to graduate, especially for a lot of people who grew up in inland (內(nèi)陸) cities, learning how to swim as an adult will be difficult. In fact, Chinese universities are not the only education organizations that encourage their students to swim. A few colleges in the. United States-including Cornell University, Columbia University and MIT-provide swimming classes for students, too. They believe that anything that stops people from dying needlessly is a valuable skill.

根據(jù)第二段可知“Besides Tsinghua University, Peking University and Xiamen University, have also listed swimming as a compulsory course for students”和第三段“A few colleges in the. United States-including Cornell University, Columbia University and MIT-provide swimming classes for students, too”可知除了清華大學(xué)還有北京大學(xué)、廈門大學(xué)、康奈爾大學(xué)、哥倫比亞大學(xué)和麻省理工學(xué)院等5間大學(xué)鼓勵學(xué)生游泳,故選C。
根據(jù)第三段“it's a necessary skill that can save lives in unexpected and dangerous situations as well as a way to stay healthy” 可知學(xué)游泳是有益并且健康,所以A表述正確;“some said it has nothing to do with getting a degree. It's not reasonable to ask people to be able to swim for them to graduate”學(xué)習(xí)游泳不應(yīng)該是獲得學(xué)位的必要條件,所以C表述正確;選項B沒有表述,故選B。
根據(jù)第二段“Considering the ability to swim as a must for students is not something new to this university-it was also necessary in the early 20th century”可知在20世紀初清華大學(xué)的學(xué)生不得不上游泳課,故選B。

But sometimes the doctor’s medicine doesn't (B) . This happened to one man Thomas Smith. He was ill in hospital, but he wasn't getting well. He saw funny films. He read funny books. And something wonderful happened. Laughing took away his pain after half a year. He could have a good night's rest. His own happy feeling helped him get well again. He wrote his story in his book. He said laughing was very useful. (D) It was the best "medicine".
Another man, Simon Beck, was also ill, and he had a serious pain in his back. The doctor couldn't stop it, so the man began to "picture" his pain. In his head he “drew” a picture of a dog. He imagined it to be a real dog. And it was hurting him. Then the man talked softly to the dog. He put his hand on the dog’s head and talked with it. After one year, his pain went away!
These stories may surprise you, but more and more people are getting well in this way. So call on the “doctor” inside your mind, and keep happy and well!
