【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,補(bǔ)全表格中所缺的信息。每空最多填寫三個單詞。

The idea of Mother’s Day is a very old idea. It was started by the ancient Egyptians (埃及人),who celebrated(慶祝) a day to honor (……表示敬意) Isis, the mother of the pharaohs. The early Christians(基督教徒) celebrated a day to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Later, English Christians celebrated to honor all mothers. This English holiday was called “Mothering Sunday”. When the English came to America, they did not have time for Mothering Sunday, so the holiday was not celebrated in America. In 1914,the U.S passed a law which designated(規(guī)定) the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day to honor the mothers who had lost sons in war.

Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated in many other countries for all mothers. In Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the same day as in the United States—the second Sunday in May. Children give their mothers cards, gifts, and flowers. Schools plan Mother’s Day’s special activities.

In China, the holiday is celebrated to show the respect(尊重) the Chinese have for the old people, and the love they have for their parents. Ten top mothers are chosen by the government. People all over the country try different ways to help mothers who are poor.

【題目】Vicky Zhao is from the mainland working in Hong Kong. For her, one thing she can't stand is people standing on the wrong side of the escalator(自動扶梯) in subway stations.

“Escalators help us move faster and save time. It isn't a place to rest,” the 24yearold says, “I often see tourists blocking(擋住) the way with their heavy suitcases or chatting on the escalators during rush hour. It makes me very angry.”

Agreeing that she is not the patient type, Zhao says things are much better in Hong Kong than in cities on the mainland where people often pay no attention to “stand right, walk left” signs.

The reason behind the rule “stand right, walk left” seems clear. Even though you may want to have a rest and just wait while you're transported up or down, you should still consider others and leave enough space for people in a hurry, so that they can run and take the train.

But the people who stand on escalators will tell the walkers not to be so impatient. In a recent story about the escalator rule, one stander says, “If the person is in such a rush, why not just take the stairs?”

Many cities' escalators, including London's and Beijing's, use the “stand right, walk left” rule to speed up the movement of people. (In Australian cities like Sydney you should stand on the left side instead.) But some cities discourage people from moving on escalators out of safety reasons. In Hong Kong's subway stations people are asked to “stand still” on escalators. Even so, most people keep the “stand right, walk left” rule.

Whatever the escalator rule is in the place you live in or visit, do what most people are doing and always be mindful of others; leave enough space between each other; don't stay at the end of the escalator, and if someone is blocking your way, a simple “excuse me” is enough.

1According to the passage, Vicky Zhao ________.

A. comes from Hong Kong

B. is a 24yearold girl

C. wants to be a patient person

D. works in a subway station

2The passage mentions that people are advised not to move on the escalator in ________.

A. London B. Beijing

C. Sydney D. Hong Kong

3It can be learnt from the passage that the writer ________.

A. is crazy about taking escalators

B. agrees to the “stay right, walk left” rule

C. tells us to consider other people

D. has been to Hong Kong many times

4What's the best title of the passage?

A. Get it right B. Help others

C. Take stairs D. Move fast
