【題目】 When asked about poetry, most people will say that a poem is a text that has rhythm(節(jié)奏) and rhyme押韻). Famous are the lines by William Blake, which have clear rhythm and rhyme.
Other people will add that poems must have a certain form, with a fixed(固定的)number of lines, such as a sonnet(十四行詩). With rhyme, most people mean the rhyme of sound of words at the end of the lines. It is also true that much of the classical(古典的)poetry that we have looks like that. John Milton was one of the first poets who started writing poems without rhyme at the end of the lines. He wrote other poems too, though he is famous for his long poems without rhyme. This style of poetry became known____ free verse(自由詩 ). It was not until the twentieth century that modem poetry was really developed. Modem poets wanted to break all the traditional forms of poetry. One of the characteristics(特征)of modern poetry is that it usually does not have rhyme at the end of a line, and it is also often about common topics(主題).
In China, free verse was known and used much earlier. The Unhappy official(《悲哉行》)by Bai Juyi is an example of a poem written in free verse.

【題目】 Don’t throw away your old phones. You are actually throwing away real gold! Smartphones have many kinds of useful metals. People can recycle them to make new electronics.
But many people may not know this. In Australia alone there are more than 25 million unused mobile phones lying around, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. The gold in these phones can add up to a value of more than $80 million. There are about 2 billion smartphone users around the world, who change their phone once every 11 months on average. So in China, eighty million old phones come along every year.
However, it’s not easy to get the useful things out of the phones. Smartphones have not only useful things but also harmful materials. Guiyu, a small town in Shantou, Guangdong, is one of the world’s biggest dumping grounds for electronic waste, Reuters reported. Many recycling centers in Guiyu simply break the old electronics by hand and don’t think about the pollution it causes. It’s reported that 81 percent of children in Guiyu are harmed by lead poisoning(鉛中毒).
Veena Sahajwalla, a professor at Australia’s University of New South Wales, has made a mini factory. It makes smartphone recycling cleaner and easier. The mini factory is very small and easy to move around. It breaks the phones and automatically(自動地)removes the phone’s useful things. That way, humans do not get poisoned.
Well, have you ever wondered what happens to the old phone after it’s no longer yours? A part of your old smartphone could soon be proudly worn around the neck of one of the world’s top athletes. 【題目】 Many people want to buy the newest gadget (小玩意) the fastest car and the most expensive watch-but are these things really worth?
For some people, these things give them status(地位) .They're cool because they have a cool car, or they're better at the newest Xbox game. Lots of people say that buying new things makes them happy, They like having new, pretty, impressive things. The problem is that people don't say happy and the feeling you get when you buy something new disappears. For example, there's a new iPhone. You stop liking your old car. Your friend has Beats in a different color and they're so much nicer! Things get old and outdated. And someone else always has something better.
So, what can you buy and stay happy with? A research suggests that the best thing to spend your extra(額外的) money on is doing things like traveling, learning to cook , speaking a language, skiing or surfing. What about going to the theater, eating at a Michelin star restaurant or climbing a mountain?
In the long term(從長遠來看),people are happier with money they spend on activities than on things. You don't remember what shoes you wore, but you remember running the marathon! When you do new things or things you enjoy, you get life experience and memories. You can share them with people. Even it you don't enjoy the experience. you can learn something and often a little while later you see the god sides of it. At least, it's a story to tell-maybe even a funny one.
