【題目】Have you ever tried to write a poem? It’s easier than you might think. Just pick up a pen and begin practicing. Here are the steps to write a poem.

Choose your topic.1 Some people can start writing poems without really deciding what to write about; when their pen or pencil hits the paper, the words just flow (暢流). Most people, on the other hand, need a topic and as a beginner, this is the best way to start. It’s easier to write a good poem about something you know well or you have experienced.

Free write for five minutes about your topic. Then go back and read it. Are any words or expressions especially good? 2 For example, if you are describing something (a bird), write down descriptive words about it (looks, colors), and the kind of story you would like to tell about (the bird fell out of a tree). If you are writing about an event in your life, write down your feelings and thoughts of that event.

Write your poem. Remember, a poem doesn’t have to rhyme(押韻).3 But it should show your feelings of the topic. And it should sound nice to you.Have a friend read your poem aloud to you.

4 If not, go back and rewrite the parts you don’t like.

5 Read it to others. Read it aloud to yourself. Put it somewhere if you want.

A. Do you like the way it sounds?

B. Mark(作記號(hào)) them and use them in your poem.

C. Enjoy your poem.

D. What would you like your poem to be about?

E. It doesn’t have to use sentences, either.

【題目】 As an English, I can speak threes languages - English, German and French, so do you think the British people are very good language learners? The fact is that they aren’t.

Some statistics from the survey done by the European Commission showed that 62% of the British people only speak English. 38% speak at least one foreign language and 18% speak two or more. Compared with the British people, 56% of the people in other European countries speak at least one foreign language and 28% speak two or more.

From this you can see that the British people are famous for not speaking foreign languages and that they are not good language learners in Europe.

And the survey also showed that English is the most widely-spoken foreign language. Many European people can have a conversation in English. That's why my people don't think it is necessary to learn a foreign language.

In Britain, students are not required to learn a foreign language. That means learning a foreign language is only an option at school. In UK schools it is common for children to start learning a foreign language at 11 and many of them give it up at 14. So why don't students continue learning foreign languages at school? Because they think it is more difficult to get good marks in languages than in other subjects such as science or history. To solve this situation, the British government is looking for different ways to improve language learning at school. One way is to start learning it at a much younger age. 【題目】 For years, I fought with the “bird’s nest” on top of my head. My mother thought my hair was naturally beautiful, but my classmates didn’t agree. They made fun of it, calling my hair “the mop (拖把)”.

When I got to university, I decided to change my hairstyle. I had my curly (卷曲的) hair straightened (拉直). However, it cost me $700 once every six months to do this. 【題目】 When throwing away trash, do you know which bin it should go in? Some of you might not be able to answer this question. But it's very important to know how to deal with your waste. Not knowing how to deal with waste is harder to save energy and protect the environment.

If you don’t deal with your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾場(chǎng)) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground. The electronic waste you throw away can pollute the soil and groundwater. Other pieces of garbage can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

Many cities in China have taken actions in recent years. For example, Shanghai announced in July that it would divide the garbage into four groups: recyclable, hazardous(有害的), wet and dry.

Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are called recyclable waste.

Hazardous waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs(熒光燈泡). These things are not recyclable.

“Wet” waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily explained.

Some waste such as plastic bags, beer bottles and other man-made things will go in the "dry waste” bin.

Many other Chinese cities plan to use this way to deal with their garbage. Let's encourage each other to deal with our waste well by sorting it to protect the environment.

1Why is it important to know how to deal with the trash in life?

A.Because it helps save energy and protect the environment.

B.Because it helps make much money by selling it.

C.Because it helps keep every neighborhood clean.

D.Because it helps develop children’s good habits.

2How should people in Shanghai separate their waste?

A.Recyclable and non-recyclable.

B.Recyclable, non-recyclable and harmful.

C.Recyclable and other waste.

D.Recyclable, hazardous, wet and dry.

3Which of the following isn't hazardous waste?

A.Medicine.B.Paper.C.Batteries.D.Fluorescent bulbs.

4The passage is mainly about________

A.the way to deal with wasteB.the way to stop throwing waste

C.the way to protect the waterD.the way to save energy
