【題目】Dear Mary,
I’m very happy to receive your letter. I have always dreamed about having a penfriend. Hopefully, we can learn from each other and grow to be good friends. I think our letters will let us know each other and share parts of our lives.
Your horse Shannon looks beautiful. I also want to live on a farm like you and learn to ride horses. It must be interesting to ride through the beautiful countryside. I have pictured myself in that sitution so many times. Your sisters are also lovely. I am the only child in my family, and sometimes I feel very lonely.
Life in New York is so busy and it is difficult to find the time to get to know people. Even becoming close to my classmates is quite difficult. However, sometimes it can be the most fantastic city in the world. At night it is so bright.
I love reading too! But I have never read any books by your favorite author Enid Blyton. I will have to go to the library in my neighborhood and find some. I also enjoy dancing and have dance class every Thursday and Saturday. My other favorite hobby is skating. In winter, I like to skate in Central Park.
I have to go now and do my homework. I really hope that I hear from you soon!
Yours,
Megan

【題目】 Do you enjoy reading and learning poetry (詩歌)? April is National Poetry Month in the United States. Children all over the world also learn about poetry at school.
When I was young we learned about lots of different poets. Poetry comes in many different forms (形式). I like how it can be used to express serious feelings, or just be something that makes you happy.
Bush poetry, a special Australian style of poetry, is my favorite.

【題目】閱讀短文,并按要求完成文后小題。
As more and more children become obese(肥胖的),schools in the US are trying to encourage students to become more active and make healthier food choices. In Dillwyn, Viginia, the educators built an “active” green school to deal with student obesity.
The school appears to be just like any other beautiful school. However, if you look closer, you will notice that the students are always moving. In the classrooms, students are wriggling(扭動) on the seats. During breaks, you’ll find students rushing out for a 10-minute physical activity break.
But physical activity alone is not enough; food intake(攝取量) is also important. The school has an open kitchen. It allows students to watch the food as it is being prepared and make healthier choices. A teaching kitchen allows kids to experiment(做實(shí)驗(yàn)) with different recipes(食譜). And a working laboratory allows them to do food science experiments. There is also a school garden where students and even family members can grow vegetables together.
So is the “active” green school working? The results are not out yet, but parents and teachers think that the kids seems to be a lot happier.

【題目】 Somerset Maugham, a famous English writer, says, to acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life. Here are several ways to develop a lifetime reading habit.
Set times. You should have a few set times every day when you'll read for at least 5-10 minutes, no matter what happens. For example, make it a habit to read during breakfast and lunch(and even dinner if you eat alone).
Always carry a book. No matter where you go, take a book with you. When leaving the house, make sure to have at least one book. You may keep the book in the car, or take it into the office or to anywhere you go, unless you're sure you won't have time to read. If there is a time when you have to wait, like at a doctor's office, take out your book and read.
Make a list. Keep a list of all the great books you want to read. You can keep this in a pocket notebook. Be sure to add to it whenever you hear about a good book. Keep a running list, and cross out the ones you have read.
Find a quiet place. Find a place in your home where you can sit in a comfortable chair with a good book. There should be no television or computer near the chair to distract you. There should be no music or noisy family members.
Set a high aim. Tell yourself that you want to read 50 books this year or some other number like that. You set about finishing reading them. Just be sure you' re still enjoying the reading.
