【題目】In one way, it is the “greatest” drone ever. In another, though, it is the opposite of what a drone should be. Drone should be very lazy. They don’t have to work. Only their sister should be busy pollinating (傳授花粉) and producing honey. However, for this drone, pollination is the very reason fur its existence (存在).

The drone, in fact is an invention of Ejiro Miyako. Miyako is a scientist from Japan. Many people, including Miyako have been worried about the future of food industry. Pollinating insects, especially bees, are falling in number. As a result, some plants can’t get pollinated and there will be fewer plants for us to eat. Scientists have been working hard to increase the number of bees. Unfortunately, they have had little success. Perhaps, Miyako thinks, it is time to build some robot bees instead.

Miyako’s bee, in fact, does not look much like a bee. It is based on a quad-copter. Miyako has put some brush hair on it. The hair is covered in special glue. They are able to pick up and hold grains of pollen(花粉) until they brush up against something else.

At the moment, Miyako’s robot bee still needs help from human operators. That’s because it can’t see where its target (目標(biāo)) are. In the next step, Miyako will install visual recognition (視覺識(shí)別) software on his bee. After that, the robot bee will be able to see by itself.

A. produce honeyB. watch natural bees work

C. pollinate plantsD. increase the number of natural bees

4Which of the following is a must for Ejiro Miyako’s invention?

A. Pollen.B. Drones and their sisters.

C. Brush hair.D. Visual recognition software.

5According to the article, what will Ejiro Miyako do in the next step?

A. Produce more robot bees.

B. Fill his garden with robot bees.

C. Allow robots to pick up pollen.

D. Make his robot bees work independently.

Most of us get our earliest life lessons from fairy tales, like “True love can overcome (戰(zhàn)勝) anything” and “Even a frog can turn into a prince”. However, when we grow up, we start to learn new things about life, especially that love doesn’t always win, and that a frog is just a frog. Even so, our love for fairy tales never dies. Just look at cartoons like The Lion King and Frozen which have millions of fans young and old.

“Fairy tales are always there because they are the stories of our lives in the purest form.” wrote US writer Laura Packer. “They are stories of love and loss, happiness and sadness, riches and dreams.”

Fairy tales are all about the real world. But if children only see just one side of life, adults usually see the other. For example, in the 2014 film Maleficent, we’re told the tale of Sleeping Beauty from the views of the evil queen. Unlike the children’s version (版本) of the story, we see that the queen wasn’t an evil at birth. Instead, she experiences great lossers, leading to her “evil” side. And in US writer James Garner’s bedtime story books, he tells the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood, but with a modern touch: When the wolf tells Red Riding Hood that it isn’t safe for a little girl to walk through the woods alone, she calls the wolf sexist (性別歧視者), which connects with today’s women’s rights movement.

It looks like fairy tales aren’t just stories our parents read us at bedtime. They may usually start with “Once upon a time…”, but as we grow older, we learn that every story doesn’t always need a “Happily ever after” to be a good one.

【題目】 One early morning, I went into the living room to find my mother reading a thick book called Best Loved Poems to Read Again and Again. My interest was aroused only by the fact that the word “Poems” appeared in big, hot pink letters.

“Is it good?” I asked her.

“Yeah,” she answered. I leaned forward.

“Patty Poem,’” she read the title. Who is Patty? I wondered. The poem began:

She never puts her toys away,

Just leaves them scattered where they lay …

The poem was just three short sections. The final one came quickly:

When she grows and gathers poise,

I’ll miss her harum-scarum noise,

And look in vain for scattered toys

And I’ll be sad

A terrible sorrow (痛苦) washed over me. Whoever Patty was, she was a mean girl. Then, the shock. “It’s you, honey,” My mother said sadly.

To my mother, the poem revealed a parent’s feeling when her child grows up and leaves. To me, the “she” in the poem was horror. It was my mama who would be sad. It was so terrible I burst (突然) out crying.

“What’s wrong?” my mother asked.

“Oh, Mama,” I cried. “I don’t want to grow up ever!”

She smiled. “Honey, it’s okay. You’re not growing up anytime soon. And when you do, I’ll still love you, okay?”

“Okay,” I was still weeping (流淚). My scare has gone. But I could not help thinking about that silly poem. After what seemed like a safe amount of time, I read the poem again and was confused. It all fit so well together, like a puzzle. The language was simple, so simple I could obviously understand its meaning, yet it was still beautiful. I was now fascinated (著迷) by the idea of poetry, words that had the power to make or break a person’s world.

I have since fallen in love with other poems, but “Patty Poem” remains my poem. After all, “Patty Poem” gave me my love for poetry not because it was the poem that lifted my spirits, but because it was the one that hurt me the most.

1Why was the writer attracted by the book Best Loved Poems to Read Again and Again?

A. It was a thick enough book.B. Something on its cover caught her eye.

C. Her mother was reading it with interest.D. It has a meaningful title.

2The writer’s mother liked to read “Patty Poem” because______.

A. it reflected her own childhoodB. it was written in simple language

C. it was composed by a famous poetD. it gave her an idea of what would happen

3It can be concluded from the passage that “Patty Poem” leads the writer to _______.

A. discover the power of poetryB. recognize her love for puzzles

C. find her eagerness to grow upD. experience great homesickness
