【題目】 The campus snack shop is a place where many students enjoy a snack and a chat. However, it may become a thing of the past. China’s educational and health authorities have banned (禁止) snack shops in all kindergartens, primary, middle and high schools across the country. The rule has taken effect since April 1.

It requires that administrators (管理人員) should keep record of each meal and work out any food problems timely. Parents can also eat with students at school canteens and give suggestions to the school on food safety and nutrition.

The rule raised heated discussion.

Many students were sad about the ban. “Without snack shops, our campus life will be less interesting,” a student from a senior high school in Hangzhou, told Qianjiang Evening News. “We won’t be able to have different kinds of drinks or desserts.”

However, many parents showed support for the rule. The father of a junior school student in Beijing told the Global Times that “cheap, low-quality snacks sold at these stores are harmful to children’s health.” “Students rush to shops to buy snacks as soon as a class is over, which affects the normal teaching order,” he said.

The rule also requires schools to monitor students who may be obese (肥胖的), and make sure they have a healthy diet.

【題目】 Traveling is not always happy, at least for the buddies in the movie Green Book. The popular film won Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards on Feb 25.

The movie was adapted from the true story of a road trip through the southern US in the early 1960s.

In the film, the black pianist Don Shirley hires Italian-American Tony Vallelonga to drive him to performances, but they face problems because of Shirley’s skin color. These problems lead them to form a special friendship.

“There’s something so deeply right about this movie, so true to the time,” wrote US film critic Mick LaSalle. The time LaSalle is talking about was between late 1870s and 1960s, a very different period in US history. Many parts of the country had Jim Crow laws (《吉姆·克勞法》), which allowed racial segregation (種族隔離). These laws made life and travel 39 for African-Americans. They couldn’t use certain hotels, restaurants, or even gas stations. They had to be indoors after sunset or they might be put into prison. Even black celebrities (名人) had to follow the laws.

But in 1936, a black mail carrier named Victor H. Green had an idea. He made a list of friendly businesses in New York City. He published the list as a small book with a green cover. The Green Book helped African-Americans travel more safely. Then, in 1964, Jim Crow laws went away. The book went away, too.

Today many US people still remember the time of Jim Crow. But they probably don’t know about The Green Book. It’s a forgotten part of the story. Thanks to this movie, maybe people can remember it again.

【題目】 Do you know what you'd like to be when you grow up? It takes most people many years to find out. For the young artist Alexandra Nechita, it never really seemed to be a question. From the day she began drawing at the age of two, she was an artist.

Alexandra Nechita was born in Romania in 1985 and moved to California when she was still a baby. As a little child, she loved coloring in her coloring books. Her parents hoped she could spend more time playing with other children, so they took away her coloring books. Alexandra began drawing her own pictures and coloring them in.

Alexandra's work was similar in some ways to the paintings by famous artists like Picasso. These artists did not use a realistic style of painting.
