【題目】閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文中的信息完成文后表格。在答題卡標(biāo)有題號的橫線上,寫出空缺處所填單詞的正確形式。(每空一詞)

Food waste is a world's problem. Every year, about 1.3 billion tons, or one-third of all the food produced is thrown away, according to a survey. Using just 25percent of that wasted food could feed 870million hungry people, which would end world hunger. The people of France wasted 234pounds of food per person, which is much better than some other countries. In the past, France wasn't good at controlling food waste, but now the country takes the lead

A law was made by French government. It made France the first country in the world to prevent supermarkets from throwing away unused food. Now supermarkets of a certain size must donate unused food, or they will face a fine. There are other rules requiring schools to teach students about food sustainability (可持續(xù)性). They also ask companies to report the food waste numbers in their environmental reports. And restaurants should provide takeout bags

“These laws make it a standard to reduce waste.” says Marie Mourad, a student in Paris who has written several reports on French food waste. "France is not the country that wastes the least food, but Frenchmen have become the most active because they want to be the example in Europe"

"Preventing supermarkets from throwing away food means a lot," says Jonathan Bloom, a famous writer. "This step has influenced parts of French food industry"

It is everyone's duty to fight against food waste. Everyone should pay attention and take action

【題目】 Peggy is a lovely girl. She is only ten years old but she likes reading and thinking. One evening, while Peggy's mom was preparing dinner, Peggy came into the kitchen. She stood beside her mom for a few minutes and then suddenly asked, “Mom, what is puberty?”

When Mom heard the question, she stopped cooking and looked at her daughter with her mouth wide open. She wasn't sure how to answer the question. Mom thought for a few seconds and then she said to Peggy kindly, "Peggy, why not look the word up in the dictionary? After that, we can talk about it. OK?”

Peggy agreed and left the kitchen happily. Half an hour later, she returned with a thick dictionary in her hand. Her mom asked her what the dictionary said.

“Puberty means, "answered Peggy, " the earliest age at which a girl is able to bear children.” “What do you think of that?" her mom asked.

“I’m not sure really, "Peggy replied in earnest." I have always been able to bear children. It's adults who I can't bear at all.

In English, the word "bear" can have several meanings. In the dictionary, "bear" means "to give birth to a child", but clearly, Peggy was thinking about its another meaning -to endure something.

2How did Peggy's mom feel when she heard the question?

C.PleasedD.Relaxed

3Why didn't Peggy's mom answer the question?

A.Because she didn’t know the answer herself.

B.Because she didn't want Peggy to know the answer.

C.Because she found it hard to answer the question.

D.Because she was too busy to answer the question.

4What does the underlined phrase "in earnest" mean in Chinese?

A.認(rèn)真地B.怪異地C.幽默地D.憂郁地

5What can we infer(推斷) from the text?

A.Peggy's mom didn't like children at all.

B.Peggy liked children more than adults.

C.Peggy finally understood the meaning of "puberty".

D.The dictionary didn’t explain the meaning of "puberty" clearly.

【題目】 It happened to me recently. I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of our President. A friend I was talking to agreed with me that it was, in his words, “a brilliantly (精彩地) written book”. However, he then went on to talk about Mr. Obama in a way which suggested he had no idea of his background at all. I realized that I was talking to a book liar.

And it seems that my friend is not the only one. About two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven’t. In the World Book Day’s “Report on Guilty Secrets”, Dreams From My Father is at number 9. The report lists ten books, and various authors, which people have lied about reading, and as I’m not one to lie too often (I’d hate to be caught out), I’ll admit (承認(rèn))here and now that I haven’t read the entire top ten. But I am pleased to say that, unlike 42 percent of people, I have read the book at number one, George Orwell’s 1984. I think it’s really brilliant.

The World Book Day report also has some other interesting information in it. It says that many people lie about having read Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoevsky (I haven’t read him, but haven’t lied about it either) and Herman Melville.

Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to “impress” someone they were speaking to. This could be tricky if the conversation became more in-depth!

But when asked which authors they actually enjoy, people named J. K. Rowling, John Grisham, Sophie Kinsella (ah, the big sellers, in other words). Forty-two percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story (I’ll come clean: I do this and am surprised that 58 percent said they had never done so).

1What does the underlined word “l(fā)iar” in the first paragraph mean according to the context?

A.A bookwormB.A man who tells lies

C.A man who hates readingD.A man who has many books

2How did the author find his friend a book liar?

A.By judging his manner of speaking.B.By looking into his background.

C.By mentioning a famous name.D.By discussing the book itself.

3Which of the following is a “guilty secret” according to the World Book Day report?

A.Charles Dickens is very low on the top-ten list.

B.42% of people pretended to have read 1984.

C.The author admitted having read 9 books.

D.Dreams From My Father is hardly read.

4By lying about reading, a person hopes to ________.

A.control the conversationB.appear knowledgeable

C.learn about the bookD.make more friends
