【題目】 Everyone needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh, and to do things with. Surely there is also some time when we need to be alone. We don’t always want people around. But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend.

No two people are just the same. Sometimes friends don’t get along well. It doesn’t mean they no longer like each other. Most of time they will make up (重歸于好) and become friends again.

Sometimes friends move away. Then we feel very sad. We miss them very much, but we can call them or write to them. And we would even see them again. And we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them.

There is more good news for people with friends. They live longer than people who don’t have friends. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. If someone cares about you, you will take better care of yourself.

【題目】 The Intelligent Transportation team at Boston has turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “DriveLAB” in order to understand the challenges older drivers face and to discover where the key stress points are. Researches show that giving up driving is one of the reasons for worse health among older people, leading them to become less active.

Led by Professor Phil Blythe the Boston team is developing in-vehicle (汽車) technologies, including navigation (導(dǎo)航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations, to help older drivers continue driving into later life. Phil Blythe explains, “For many older people, especially those living alone or in the country, driving is important for them because it gives them the freedom to get out without depending on others.” “But we all have to accept that as we get older, our reactions slow down and this often results in people avoiding any challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.”

According to Dr Amy Guo, a researcher on the older driver study, the DriveLAB is helping people understand what the key points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technologies to solve these problems. He said, For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph areas they still kept their regular speed and so they were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of being fined (罰款). We’re looking at the systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that. We hope that our work will help older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.”

1Why did the Intelligent Transportation team build the DriveLAB?

A.To study new ways of driving.B.To design new types of cars.

C.To find out older drivers’ problems.D.To teach people traffic rules.

2Why is driving important for older people according to Phil Blythe?

A.It helps them save time and money.B.It allows them to remain independent.

C.It builds up their strength.D.It brings them much pleasure.

3What do researchers wish to do for older drivers?

A.Improve their driving skills.B.Develop driver-assist technologies

C.Provide advice on selling their cars.D.Prepare for normal physical exams.

4What may be the best title for the passage?

A.A New Model Electric CarB.A Solution to Traffic Problem

C.Driving Services for EldersD.Keeping older Drivers on the Road
