There are many good ways you can help your child prepare for tests. Keep in mind that test results for younger children are not as true as for older students. If a young child is hungry, tired or upset, this may result in a poor test score. Here is some advice on how you can help your child do his or her best on tests.
Read aloud with your child
Reading aloud helps develop vocabulary and a positive attitude (積極的態(tài)度) toward reading. Reading together is one of the best ways you can help your child
succeed in school.
Share experiences
You can show your child how you make cookies, plant a garden, or make a map of your neighbourhood, and then you do them together. These activities help build skills that are tested such as following directions.
Help your child know what to expect
Read and discuss with your child the test-taking advice. Letting your child know testing procedures (程序) and helping him or her know what to expect can
improve test scores.
Help your child with his or her homework
Set up a quiet study area for homework. Make sure this area has pencils, paper, a ruler, a dictionary, scissors, glue, and so on. Check your child’s homework and offer to help if he or she has some difficulty. But remember, it’s your child’s homework, not yours. If you help too much, your child will not get much from
the activity.
Keep communicating with your child’s teachers
Attend parent-teacher meetings. This will help you get to know your child’s teachers and the families of your child’s classmates. Talk to your child’s teachers about your child’s performance in class.

【題目】
Mariea Sabaté always wanted to work with horses.
“I grew up right here, and when I was a little kid visiting the parks ... all I cared about was ‘Where are the Park Police horses?'” said Sabaté, a mounted officer (騎警).
Sabaté trains Park Police applicants ( 申請人), putting them through a 10-week course. “The training covers everything from ‘this is the front and back of the horse' to getting them to control the animal,” said Gratton, who had a similar course.
Horses can help control crowds because they let officers see farther than they could on the ground.“One horse can do the work of 15 to 20 officers,” said Chairs,
another mounted officer.
Horses also make chases ( 追捕) an easy thing. Gratton said she has had a few examples when someone tried to run from her. “I usually catch up with them pretty quick,” she said, “and tell them to let me know when they're tired.”
Chairs recalled one time when a man tried to run up a set of steps (臺階) to get away. Once the man saw Chairs' horse, which weighed about 1,800 pounds, running toward him, he shouted “I give up” right away.
Running through the steps is just one task the horses are trained to do. The horses must get used to the noises, sights and activities of the city before they are allowed to work.
“The first time I took my horse down the street, he thought he was going to die — I thought I was going to die!” Sabaté said with a laugh.
Being able to give horses a new purpose in life is part of what makes Sabaté love the job. “If you really love horses like I do ... this is the best job ever,” she said.

【題目】
Nowadays, many children spend many hours a day looking at computer screens or other digital products(數(shù)碼產(chǎn)品). Some eye care professionals (專業(yè)人士) say all the screen time has caused more children to have eye problems.
Nathan Warford is an optometrist ( 驗(yàn)光師) in Florida, USA. He says he has seen an increase in problems in children.
“Some children come into the office because their parents have found that they have red eyes. Others come because their degree of short-sightedness is increasing very fast and their parents are worried,” he said.
Part of the problem is that even if their eyes start to feel uncomfortable or they start to get a headache, some children don't tell their parents. These children are afraid that their parents would take their games or the computer away.
Another part of the problem is that people blink (眨眼睛) less often when they look at the screen. When a person uses a computer or other digital products, he or
she blinks about a third as much as we normally do in everyday life. If we blink less often, our eyes can't stay wet or are too tired and they will not be protected like
normal.
【1】According to Dr Warford, how many kinds of eye problems may too much screen time cause?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.

【題目】
As the old saying goes, “A new broom sweeps clean.” Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, took office on Jan 20. Soon after that, the new president began using his power to make changes to the country by signing several executive orders (總統(tǒng)行政令).The orders include the travel ban (禁令) on refugees (難民) and people from seven mainly Muslim countries, like Iraq and Syria. Trump believes this helps keep terrorism (恐怖主義) out of the US. He also signed an order to build a wall along the southern border, aiming to stop smugglers (走私者) and Mexicans moving to the US illegally (非法地) .
Trump pointed out on his Facebook that this is about keeping the US safe. However, many people, both from the US and other countries, are against the orders. Judges in the US say that Trump’s travel ban is unconstitutional (違背憲法的), as it is a kind of discrimination (歧視) against Muslims. And world leaders, groups and businesses including those from the United Nations and European Union are also against or have criticized the ban.
Trump also signed another controversial (有爭議的) order about the economy. He decided to quit the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP, 跨太平洋伙伴關(guān)系協(xié)定). It was a free trade agreement between 12 countries around the Pacific, including Australia, Singapore and Japan. TPP was the product of seven years of work under former US President Barack Obama. It aims to make trade easier among the 12 countries. But Trump wants to do trade deals with one country at a time, instead of in a big group like the TPP, according to The Independent.
【1】According to Trump, he signed the travel ban on refugees to _____.
A. solve the refugee problems B. fight against Muslims
C. keep his country safe D. stop foreigners entering the US
【2】What do many US people think of Trump’s orders, according to the second paragraph?
A. They think the orders are helpful.
B. They don’t support the orders.
C. They think the orders follow the law.
D. The orders are against the rules of the UN and EU.
【3】Trump decided to leave the TPP, because _____.
A. he preferred to trade with one country at a time rather than a group
B. he didn’t want to make trade deals with Australia and Japan
C. he thought the TPP group was not big enough
D. he didn’t like the former US president
【4】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Trump’s new orders. B. Trump’s travel ban.
C. The Trans-Pacific Partnership. D. Different leadership styles of US presidents.
