Mariea Sabaté always wanted to work with horses.

“I grew up right here, and when I was a little kid visiting the parks ... all I cared about was ‘Where are the Park Police horses?'” said Sabaté, a mounted officer (騎警).

Sabaté trains Park Police applicants ( 申請人), putting them through a 10-week course. “The training covers everything from ‘this is the front and back of the horse' to getting them to control the animal,” said Gratton, who had a similar course.

Horses also make chases ( 追捕) an easy thing. Gratton said she has had a few examples when someone tried to run from her. “I usually catch up with them pretty quick,” she said, “and tell them to let me know when they're tired.”

Chairs recalled one time when a man tried to run up a set of steps (臺階) to get away. Once the man saw Chairs' horse, which weighed about 1,800 pounds, running toward him, he shouted “I give up” right away.

Running through the steps is just one task the horses are trained to do. The horses must get used to the noises, sights and activities of the city before they are allowed to work.

“The first time I took my horse down the street, he thought he was going to die — I thought I was going to die!” Sabaté said with a laugh.

Being able to give horses a new purpose in life is part of what makes Sabaté love the job. “If you really love horses like I do ... this is the best job ever,” she said.

Nowadays, many children spend many hours a day looking at computer screens or other digital products(數(shù)碼產(chǎn)品). Some eye care professionals (專業(yè)人士) say all the screen time has caused more children to have eye problems.

Nathan Warford is an optometrist ( 驗(yàn)光師) in Florida, USA. He says he has seen an increase in problems in children.

“Some children come into the office because their parents have found that they have red eyes. Others come because their degree of short-sightedness is increasing very fast and their parents are worried,” he said.

Part of the problem is that even if their eyes start to feel uncomfortable or they start to get a headache, some children don't tell their parents. These children are afraid that their parents would take their games or the computer away.

As the old saying goes, “A new broom sweeps clean.” Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, took office on Jan 20. Soon after that, the new president began using his power to make changes to the country by signing several executive orders (總統(tǒng)行政令).The orders include the travel ban (禁令) on refugees (難民) and people from seven mainly Muslim countries, like Iraq and Syria. Trump believes this helps keep terrorism (恐怖主義) out of the US.
