【答案】In our daily life, I usually see some bad behavior around us. For example, I often hear people speak and laugh loudly in public. It is too noisy. Some people cut in line while others are waiting. It makes me unhappy. And in our school dining hall, I often see some students waste food. At times, people seem unfriendly and offer no help when others are in trouble. For me, my parents are strict with me. They often tell me to behave well. So I never drop litter about. And I never draw on the desk or on the wall. I am polite to old people.

I hope every student can start from themselves, take care of the environment, obey the school rules and be a civilized middle school student.

【題目】 Have you ever hiccupped (打嗝)in a quiet room full of people? Have you ever hiccupped so hard that you had to stop what you were doing? The hiccups is a problem that almost everyone has experienced.

The reasons for getting hiccups

People get hiccups for some reasons. Hiccups might result from eating or drinking too much or too quickly. A sudden change in the stomach’s temperature, such as drinking hot water immediately after drinking cold water, may also cause hiccups. They may even happen because of being excited or being under a lot of stress.

Making hiccups go away

Ideas on how to stop hiccups have been created, shared, and tried for years. However, what works for one person may not work for everyone. Perhaps the most common method people use is to hold their breath for a few seconds. If this doesn’t work, you can try swallowing (吞下)hard while holding your breath. There are also some strange-sounding ways, like drinking a lot of water. Someone might even try to scare away hiccups.

Ideas for curing (治愈)hiccups often include things found in the kitchen. Some people put sweet and sour things into water. Many people believe that eating some sugar can make hiccups go away.

Award-winning method

In 2010, a young girl named Mallory Kievman couldn’t make her hiccups go away. None of the ideas that she knew worked for her. So she decided to find her own cure for hiccups. She knew that sweet and sour things were commonly used to cure hiccups, and she knew that swallowing hard could also help. She decided to use the two ideas to make a special lollipop(棒棒糖). She experimented with different things in the kitchen. After she failed many times, Mallory invented a lollipop that worked by putting water, sugar and vinegar () together. She named her invention Hiccupops.

Mallory wanted to find out whether her lollipops would help others. She gave her lollipops to friends. Most of them were cured of their hiccups after eating the lollipops.

【題目】Learning to love reading

Taking public transportation in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely (很少地) see people reading during their free time.

Are people’s attitudes toward reading different here? Not really. Data (數(shù)據(jù)) released by Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e-books over regular books.

However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the us than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature (文學(xué)). From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三國演義》) to the modern science-fiction books The Three-Body Problem (《三體》), and many other styles, Chinese authors have created many fantastic written works.

Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely (肯定) have to read more and do more homework than US students. So it’s no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time.

But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own personal beliefs and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?

C. Chinese people never read in their spare time.

D. Chinese people bought the most books from Amazon China in 2017.

4Why is reading less popular in China, according to the author?

A. Because Chinese people prefer to watch plays instead of reading.

B. Because it’s hard to choose what to read.

C. Because Chinese people already read enough books during their childhoods.

D. Because People’s childhood experiences may influence their reading habits.

5According to the author, reading books can ________.

A. help you learn more about schoolworkB. take too much of your time

C. make you feel tiredD. change your view of the world

【題目】 I teach economics in a university three times a week. Last Monday, at the beginning of class, I asked my students how their weekend had been. One young man said that his weekend had not been so good. He had his wisdom teeth removed. Then he went on to ask me why I always seemed to be so cheerful.

His question reminded me of something I’d read somewhere before: Every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to live that day. I said, “I choose to be cheerful.”

“Let me give you an example,” I continued. “Besides teaching here, I also teach at a college in Henderson, 17 miles down the freeway from where I live. One day a few weeks ago, I exited(離去) the freeway and turned onto College Drive. I only had to drive another quarter mile down the road to the college. But just then my car died. I tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn’t work. So I put my flashes on, took my books, and walked down the road to the college. As soon as I got there, I called AAA (汽車協(xié)會) and asked for a tow truck to meet me at my car after class. The secretary there asked me what had happened. “ Δ .” I replied, smiling.

“Your car breaks down but it is not a bad day. What do you mean?”

“My car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. It didn’t,” I replied. “Instead, it broke down at the perfect place: off the freeway, within walking distance of here. I’m still able to teach my class, and I’ve been able to ask for the tow truck to meet me after class! If my car was meant to break down today, it couldn’t have been arranged in a more convenient way.”

I ended my story. In spite of the early hour, no one in my class seemed to be asleep. Somehow, my story had touched them.

C. secretary at AAAD. college student

2The writer ___________ when his car broke down that day.

B. There is something wrong with my car.

C. I’m just a little bit late for work.
