【題目】 Long long ago, there was a spider (蜘蛛) who lived in a field. She liked this home and planned to stay there for the rest of her life.

One day, the spider caught a little bug (蟲子). The bug said, “If you let me go, I will tell you something important that will save your life.” The spider stopped and listened carefully. “You’d better get out of this field,” the little bug said. “The harvest (收割) is coming!”

The spider smiled and said, “What is the harvest you are talking about? You are just telling me a story.” But the little bug said, “Oh, no, it is true. The owner of this field is coming to harvest it soon. You will be killed by the machines if you stay here.”

The spider said, “I don’t believe you. I have lived here all of my life, and the owner has never come here.” And then the spider ate the little bug for lunch.

The next day was a beautiful sunny day. As the spider was going to have a rest, she saw some thick clouds moving towards her. She could hear the sound of a great machine, and she said to herself, “What would that be? Is the bug right?”

【題目】 It seems like technology is everywhere. Computers and smart phones are at the center of almost everything we do. They constantly (持續(xù)地) require our attention. We text our friends with them during the day, sleep with them by our beds and check our messages as soon as we wake up.

In the future, technology will no longer be interrupting us all the time. Instead, we will use calm technology which was first developed by scientist Mark Weiser in the 1970s. In his opinion, calm technology works quietly but constantly. We know it is there, but we don’t pay much attention to it. According to Mark, the best technology should be invisible (隱形的) and let you live your life.

We already use many different types of calm technology in our everyday lives. Do you have a smoke alarm (警報(bào)器) in your house? That smoke alarm is always there, checking the air for smoke and quietly keeping you safe. It only reminds you it’s there when you’ve burnt your bread! Or there may be lights in your home or school. When somebody passes in front of their sensors (傳感器), the lights turn on. You don’t think about this type of technology until you see the light go on.

In the future, we can use calm technology to open the curtains (窗簾) for us in the morning, to turn down the heat when we leave, or even to choose the best music for us. The minute we walk through the door, our house will turn on the lights and music, and perhaps even start to prepare our dinner!

1Which of the following is an example of calm technology?

A. A computer.B. A smart phone.C. A smoke alarm.D. A radio.

2What does the underlined word “interrupting” mean?

A. Hurting.B. Protecting.C. Helping.D. Troubling.

3What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?

A. Calm technology keeps us safe in many ways.

B. Calm technology can help you to do housework.

C. Calm technology has been used in our daily lives.

D. Calm technology plays an important part in schools.

4What can’t we learn from the last paragraph?

A. We can use it to open the curtains in the morning.

B. We can use it to turn down the heat when we leave.

C. We can use it to choose the best music.

D. We can use it to wash dishes.

5What can we infer from the passage?

A. The light won’t go on unless we touch the sensor.

B. Calm technology will make our life more convenient.

C. People will depend more on smart phones in the future.

D. People won’t have to work because of calm technology.

【題目】Clothes Donation (捐贈(zèng)) Box

Have you ever put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming popular in Hefei.

“From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we teenagers are growing fast. I think it’s a good way to help others.” Lin Tao, a junior student says.

“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I’ll put them into the donation box.” Miss Li, a pretty young lady says.

“That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases.” Mrs. Wang, an old woman says, “Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes.”

However, there are some problems along with clothes donation. Recently, a reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results:

◆The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes.

◆Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing them.

◆Some communities set the box in unsuitable (不合適的) places. So there are few clothes in it.

◆Many clothes are too old.

“What’s worse,” one of the workers in a community added, “We quite often see people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We’ve tried to stop them several times but failed. It has been the most serious problems since we set the box.”

In order to make the donation box work in an efficient (有效的) way, our government is taking action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be more convenient for people in need to take the clothes away.

1Miss Li gives away her clothes because _____.

A. her clothes are out of styleB. her mother clears out her clothes

C. she is growing too fastD. she wants to make something

2All the problems about the donation box are included EXCEPT _____.

A. there’s no more room for people to donate clothes

B. people choose unsuitable places to set the box

D. the clothes in the box are too old

3The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 means ______.

A. the clothes donation boxesB. the old people

C. handbags and pencil casesD. some clothes in the box

4We can infer from the passage that ______.

A. the clothes donation will be better-organized to help donators and people in need.

B. the clothes donation becomes less popular than before because of serious problems

C. the clothes donation can prevent some girls from wearing clothes that are out of style

D. the clothes donation gives the traders a good idea to sell old clothes for making money
