Coming to the end of my assistantship (助教) in Barcelona, I start to think about what the future might hold.

It has been seven months and a few days s1 I arrived here. Things have changed so much in such a short time. When I first arrived here, I was so2 (excite) and nervous to start a new adventure in a country I love.

H3, after a couple of weeks, the excitement started to go away. And I 4(begin) to miss my hometown a lot. It was such powerful homesickness (想家) that I spent 5 (much) than a few nights thinking about going back.

All that started to change after I spent some good time 6 my new friends, practicing languages, eating together and seeing new places. I suppose we should never forget how important it is to have good people in7(we) life, because they can make such 8difference. Coming back to Barcelona after visiting home for Christmas felt like returning to a9(two) home, to a place that was mine with people I cared about.

Now, looking forward, I have some 10 (decide) to make. My advice from my experience so far is to try new things whenever you can. You may find something new!

現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)態(tài)中,since/for+時(shí)間;I arrived here是時(shí)間點(diǎn),所以用since,自從。

I was so后跟形容詞,excite加后綴d表示人很興奮。

根據(jù)than說(shuō)明用比較級(jí),much的比較級(jí)是more;more than多于,超過(guò)。

固定搭配,產(chǎn)生不同make a difference。

如第1題,題干是現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)結(jié)構(gòu),時(shí)間詞有sincefor,since后跟時(shí)間點(diǎn),for后跟時(shí)間段,所以填since;如第4題,因?yàn)檎麄(gè)歷程發(fā)生在過(guò)去,所以用一般過(guò)去時(shí),動(dòng)詞也要用過(guò)去式。

The “Tell Me About” column this month will focus on the most important thing you have learned during your school life. Share your stories on www. ascd. org/tellmeahout.

Importance of feeling valued

Long before differentiation (區(qū)分) was used in education, I was lucky enough to have two teachers who gave me meaningful tasks that were different from my classmates’. I was able to explore in my own way. I learned a lot for sure, but what I really learned was that I was valued as an individual (個(gè)人). Now I am a teacher and I differentiate so that my students can learn. They, too, are valued as individuals.

— Lorraine Jacques, Connecticut

Seeing a bright future

In the 8th grade, my art teacher, Mrs. Griffin, changed me by saying the following words, “I do not want you to invite me to your high school graduation. I want you to invite me to your college graduation.” Eight years later, I became the first person in my family to graduate from college. When I sent out invitations to my college graduation ceremony, Mrs. Griffin was the first person on my list.

— Angela Estrella, California

In school, I learned not to take no for an answer. In high school, a favorite teacher told me that I would never win a public-speaking contest. It made me so mad that I entered a national contest and won first in the state and third in the nation. I keep my public-speaking medals in my bookcase as a reminder that there is always a way. We should not let anyone else decide what we can achieve.

Lots of kids like to play computer and mobile games these days. Is this good or bad for us? How do we deal with this issue?

In my opinion, playing games responsibly (負(fù)責(zé)任地) can help us relax. As the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” For example, when I finish five days of studying, I feel tired. That’s when I like to play a game called King of Glory with my classmates.

We all have lots of fun playing and talking about it. When we win, we feel happy. And when we lose, we still want to play more. I think that’s why so many students in our school like to play this game. It can not only help us relax, but also strengthen our friendship.

In addition, playing games can exercise our brains and help us think more quickly. When we start to play a new game, we’re not very good at it. But we can get better through practice. This process exercises our brains and makes them more active. However, you should make sure that you have finished all of your homework before you play games.

Still, some students seem like they are addicted (上癮的) to games. They can’t control themselves and will play games for five hours a day. That is not good. It’s bad for not only their eyes, but also their health. They will feel tired in class the next day, which will affect (影響) their studies. That’s not very responsible.

Therefore, I can only say that we should try to be self-disciplined (自律的) and responsible when working out how much time we should spend playing video games.

Title: Are computer games good or bad

1

● Helping us 2

We may feel tired after five days hard work at school, we can have a great time playing and talking about games.

● Exercising our brains

We can practice more when starting to play a new game which we aren’t good at. This process can make our brains

more 3.

Disadvantages

● Doing harm to our health

A few students, who seem to be 4 about games, can’t control themselves and will spend five hours a day playing games.

● Affecting our 5

As a result, the students will feel sleepy in class the next day after playing games for a long time.

Conclusion

We should try to be self-disciplined and responsible when working out how long we should spend playing video games.

Are you afraid of moving up to senior high school (高中)? Don’t worry. We’ve put together a guide to help you in the first week.

You’re not alone

Remember everybody else in your year is in the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules.

Teachers are ready to help

Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with older students. They will help you if you have any problems.

Other points

If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school, ask them for advice. Be yourself? It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally. Besides, having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning!
